Can we please refer to them as Team America... that way they get their own built in theme song.

How hard can it be to make the alternate/substitution rules very clear with no loop holes? That doesn't seem like a hard task.

That is what I have been asking all year. I don't understand why the rule is so fuzzy. It's almost like it was made that way on purpose...hrmmm.

Now, now. Don't try to start something.

Let's start by saying that the only subs can be other team members that competed FOR XYZ gym AT the bid winning competition.

Ok. What about the athletes on teams of XYZ gym that didn't attend that competition? Are we gonna say tough luck?

If not, then you start getting into a bit of fuzziness.

Now, let's say that they can include athletes on teams of XYZ gym that didn't attend that competition. What if that team hasn't competed yet? Like many international teams, they might get a late start due to school, etc.

If we say, "we'll ok", now we're in a bit more fuziness.

So let's hear actual suggestions of the wording of the rule, so we can all talk about some hypotheticals.

Then we can be critical.

How about you can use subs from where ever and when ever. You are limited to 15% of your competing team to sub with whoever you want (as long as they meet age requirements).

Thats 5 for Large
Thats 4 for International
Thats 3 for Small

I'm okay with that, not that I can actually do anything about it.

We'll call it the kingston rule. Where do all the "small" gyms go to complain that the "big" gyms are raiding all their athletes?

I have a question, what if a team has less than the max kids allowed in a division, all year long including the comp where they reveived their bid, but they show up with more kids at Worlds. Is that okay? They really aren't a sub is there any type of check and balance? I'm guessing this would only be an issue with at large teams, because someone would check the paid bids or do they?

They are not supposed to compete with more than they had on the floor when they won the bid.

I am not sure there is a practical way to reduce that UNTIL we have a better way of tracking alternates and worlds rosters in general.

But with your suggestion, why would we even have to track alternates? Other than a number?

That was my guess, but does anyone check? If not, the team picture from the comp would help that situation as well.

We don't. It is a double edged sword. The fairest way to allow people to have alternates and not cannibalize other gyms is a hard solution to come by.

I am not sure 'in program' alternates work either. That is something that is too easy to fake.. and for people that, gonna use ACE as an example, have 5 gym programs have a VERY large talent pool to sub from and pull people. I think limiting choices from in gym hurts the little guys more than the big guys.

I know the current rule doesn't work. I don't like it and there are several USASF people that are very aware of my dislike.

I think we need to get a new and better rule; I'm just trying to generate discussion so people will see that it's not as easy as saying "make it so".

Wouldn't it just be easier to clarify the rule by saying that subs and alternates must be from your own gym, and they MUST be proven all star cheerleaders at the time the bid was received? This can be tracked by the registration forms turned in at the event where the bid was received. If they changed the wording from "current member" to "active all star at the time the bid was received" it would be a start.
