What level rules need to be fixed or clarified?

I get what you're saying, but just because gyms like TG, Rays, WC, CA, etc. have multiple level 5 teams doesn't mean ALL of their level 5 talent can be put on one of those teams. Because T&S is a much smaller gym, pretty much any level 5 senior age athlete goes on our one and only Sr. 5 team. But I would imagine that at these larger gyms they have to put their "lesser talented" level 5 kids on a sr. open 5 because there is so much more competition to make those coveted spots on their worlds teams. Does that make sense?? That's the way I see it anyway.

yeah but gyms using so5 for its intended purpose cant compete with that. Theyre just happy to get fulls on the floor at all. If you have a bhs whip full punch through to full you are *not*, by any standard, lesser talented...I get what your saying. But this is just furthering the hierarchy.

I remember reading that when it came out. Doesn't change my opinion. What do you think I'm missing?

You're from ACE. You don't see the forest for the trees. The gap between level 4 and 5 is huge and, practically, uncrossable. Gyms can't compete with the teams in 5. The talent of that level has moved too far ahead of 4 for gyms to be able to make that leap. SO5 was made to be a stepping stone between these two levels. The teams from larger gyms are ruining the level for people who it was made for,\ because the gap between them is two huge when gyms with strong tumblers/stunters who sandbag. Instead of the teams SO5 was made for having a chance, they're again unable to compete. The larger gyms in the nation have pushed the limits of level 5 so much it's not possible for a gym with a level 4 team to ever be able to catch up. What bothers me is that teams that are working their butt's off pulling stuff they barely have in a level designed specifically *for* them, and still can never measure up/win/succeed in any way. I understand how hard it must be to be level 5 at a gym like ACE. But taking advantage of SO5 is not the answer...

Well, yeah, I'm from ACE. But I've also been around this sport for a long time and I like to think that I'm a reasonably objective person.

What would you do to correct the "problem" as you see it?

I stated in my first post that I didn't think there was necessarily a way to stop whats been happening. I just stated that it's pretty shameful that these gyms are taking advantage of newer/smaller gyms by throwing their weight around. Again.

I don't know how you could fix it.....Make so5 open to gyms with no other level 5 team maybe? I was just trying to make a point. I think the division is being abused and that something should be done about it.

If you feel strongly about this, please make sure it is presented at one of the USASF regional meetings. That's where the discussions for the 2011-2013 rules changes are being conducted.

Are athletes in the division aloud to present rule changes about that division?

No, only coaches or gym owners. But maybe you can convince your coach or owner to present the idea?

I think sometimes people feel like the big gyms should stop growing to allow the small gyms an opportunity to catch up. Unfortunately, that's not how businesses work. Walmart doesn't stop it's growth to allow it's competitor a chance to be just as good or better. The SO5 division was created to help level 4 athletes transition to true level 5 at a safe pace. Does that mean big gyms shouldn't be allowed to do this? I understand the whole "someone with a full through to full, standing full and other great level 5 skills" doesn't belong on a SO5 team and for the most part I agree. But what if that person with a full through to full and standing full didn't have the stunting or jumping or performance ability needed to make their gym's worlds team/teams??? What if that person had been injured and didn't get to try out for any of the worlds teams available at their gym? What if that person just isn't a strong flyer and didn't make one of the coveted flying spots on the worlds teams? There are all kinds of reasons why a strong tumbler would be put on a SO5 team. Now if you want to say that someone already on a regular level 5 team with these skills shouldn't be able to crossover, I would stand in agreement with that. At NCA you can't cross levels. I think SO5 should be it's own "level" for NCA purposes. Maybe that would prevent gyms (large and small) from using super strong athletes to cushion their SO5 teams. Thoughts??
