What if Cheerleading followed the same format that Little league does. The following example is very simple but it shows the format.

Teams would compete at States. The top 2 or 3 teams would then go and compete at regionals.

The top 2 or 3 teams would then compete at Nationals.

The winners of Nationals would then compete for the World Championship.

It would allow all countries to compete with the best teams from the countries.

Under this format you could have a world champion for each level of cheerleading and no single country would dominate the field.

Just a thought for conversation.

I love the idea, but I think cheerleading is too pocketed in certain areas to work today (but in the future this might be great!). It seems like 80% of cheer is in 10 states.

Yes you are right but each state still has at least 1 team, so they would be able to at least attend a regional.. There still could be comps all year long with the season ending in March. Starting in April the State comps would be run, all states would hold the event on the same weekend, the following weekend would be regionals with Worlds the first weekend in May.
This format would also allow the event to be moved around the world each year. It is a lot easier to send one team each division over seas than 1000.

Pop Warner cheerleading makes a lot of sense... similar to Little League.

Each state has multiple leagues. Each league holds a competition and the top 3 teams move onto a Regional Qualifier to even go to Regionals. Top 3 or maybe 5 in each division at Qualifier goes to Regionals. Then top 5 from each division move to Nationals. That usually eliminates all the teams that just aren't at the difficulty level to be at Nationals.

I actually help coach popwarner and the placements are even more strict now. First you have the local round where they take half the number of teams in that division. then is regional qualifiers where they take about three depending on the number of teams in that division. then in regionals no matter how many teams are in the division they only take two to disney. Its a very stressful system because one little mess up in the first round can knock you out for the rest of the season. I like allstar much more

Well, the reason our ages are the way they are in club divisions is that culturally we separate minors from adults in sports. The only division that mixes at all is IOC5.

What is the reason for making the senior age 15? (this isn't an attack, I am just trying to understand it. our cutoff naturally happens when you graduate high school / become an adult)

I think one reason could be that we don't have enough cheerleaders old enough to change the age to 18+. My team would only have like 7 people left if we changed and I think it's the same for a lot of other teams here. I don't know if this is the true reason, i'm just guessing...
(It doesn't make a huge difference but i think you become a senior when your'e 16, not 15, in Sweden.)

I lied haha at Regionals only top 2 teams get bids to Nationals in Pop Warner. It's been a while haha

I could see Allstar using the best of both. Tryouts late spring, training during the summer, comps start in the fall. April the last month of the season would be for the crowning of a True World Champion in each division through the local, state, regional, national, world champion format.

I think they should just come up with a new name for International Open 5....not international...and I agree with raising the age limit. I filled in for someone on an international team just last weekend and being older than most and the maturity of the people on the teams I don't think 14-16 year olds should be on teams with adults. Everything is different with age, make it 17+

If you present the opportunity for a level 4.2 team to go to worlds.. Then all divisions will wants to go.. Worlds should stay as it is lvl 5 and 6 .. And if I do recall there is a competition called ALL level worlds... Where after winning locally they compete nationally

I don't think it's called All Level Worlds, it's the All Level Championship, and doesn't have the same "ultimate competition in the division" feeling that worlds does. There's something similar called US Finals as well, but US Finals has like 7 competitions that you have to receive bids to go to. Plus the 4.2 wouldn't be for American 4.2 teams, it's for would-be international open 4.2 teams.

I don't like the idea of adding a 4.2 division - Worlds is supposed to be for the top division, levels 5 and 6. I understand the idea of it - give international teams a division they can be more competitive in, but I think that's pandering to them too much. I know it's called *worlds*, but would the international teams come all the way to the US to not compete against US teams? Why not add an international winner in the international divisions. The international winner (or top 3) would be non-US teams. I'm sure that most international teams know they won't beat an American team, let's not segregate them because of that.

in all honesty i have only heard of the US 4.2... and frankly im not for this division.. its not pushing girls to get better tumbling.. what thay can do full ups but do not need ro bhs layouts.. yes i admit their stunting is phenomenal but i also look toward tumbling....when girls have layouts and place on lvl 4.. but THEY dont have the privelage of going to worlds ... UNFAIR

There really is only a US 4.2 right now as it stands. If you read this whole thread, Kingston's idea was to create an international open 4.2 (either 14+ or 17+, I'm not sure). It would be for international teams to actually have a shot at winning something. There's already about 10 times more US teams than international ones, so allowing a division for international teams that US teams can't enter isn't going to hurt anyone.

In any case, this thread isn't really about the merits of 4.2, but for what it's worth, there are a lot of girls who just can't tumble - maybe they started late, maybe it's some crazy mental block, but this doesn't restrict them in what talents they do have - stunting.
