Ok so I'm thinking about writing a compare/contrast paper about Competitive Cheer vs. School Cheer for my english class. However, we have to have 3 sources to back up our paper. Anyone know of some good sources I could possibly use? They can be anything. I was trying to think of websites that might have some info, but I figured I'd just ask here in case there are some I don't know about. Any help would be great, thanks!!

i'm sure you'd find something helpful on spirit post. especially since the whole cheer as a sport has been a hot topic, i know some of the points presented may be useful in your paper.

As a teacher, I would not be interested in reading interviews with people-as those are opinion. Look for articles from American Cheerleader, Inside Cheerleading or any of the other trade publications. Also, do a search in an educational database for articles related to cheer. I would use information from AACCA/NFHS as well as from the new STUNTS team program.

Just because they're in a magazine, doesn't make them opinion? Most of American Cheerleader's articles are from interviews anyways. I'm not sure about inside cheerleading, but what would the difference be except that one you copied from a magazine, and the other you took the initiative to ask the questions you need to know, and get unique answers. Either way, you're going to have to cite something.

Cheerleading is very subjected to opinions rather than fact. My own opinion is that you're going to have a hard time writing that paper without some opinions. This is one of the reasons why cheer is yet to become a sport. Even our scoring system is a subject of opinion.

EVERY article you read (even those published in peer reviewed journals) are based on interviews etc. However, when they are published in a trade journal (Cheer Biz News) or a magazine (IC or AC) they "hold more weight" because they were written by a professional who typically has access to more experts in their field than a high school or college aged kid. Also, when it's published it can be considered the industry standard, rather than just one person's opinion.
Cheerleading is not mainstream enough in regards to research that there isn't a lot out there.
