Why change colleges just to get a ring if your good and know that your good why change your school 3 times and be a 26yr. old man in college not close to a degree of a 25 yr old women. It makes no sense:clapping:

just to play devils advocate, just because you are chasing rings doesnt mean you arent getting a degree. it really comes down to priorities. if a ring isnt important to you then so be it, other people it consumes their existence and they will do anything to achieve it. i was lucky i didnt have to switch colleges to win, but some people do not have that luxury. if cheer consumes them on a day to day basis, and they plan to make cheer their future, sometimes the ring is more important than the degree when it comes to jobs. just another opinion.

i feel like rings are a big deal but to me an even bigger deal is getting a degree although a ring on my hand would be freaking sweet

I can think of someone who I would consider a ring chaser and I'm not sure they have ever graduated from a university. They are on their 3rd or 4th college right now and just keep jumping around.

It is one thing if you are actually getting an education while doing so. Say you cheer and get your bachelors but never get a ring and decide to go for a masters then go somewhere that has a good program and you can work for your ring. Those are a-okay to me, but there are those out there that just want a ring and the education doesn't mean squat. If you are going to chase after a ring atleast get your moneys worth in your education while doing so.

IDK if I would CHASE to a couple schools, but I understand someone being at Spirit Barn Storm University and transferring to Louisville or HPU souly for a ring. Im kind of out of the college loop now since I graduated a few years ago, but I do remember at one time HPU had several people who would go there for their freshman year, get a ring, and throw up their dueces

The upside, though, is at least they are still in school and they have to have a passing GPA in order to cheer.
I have no idea if my own daughter would still be in school if it wasn't for cheer. It's kind of taking the bad with the good for a lot of kids. LOL
The end result is a degree, so it really doesn't matter how many schools it takes to get there. It will take my daughter 2 (Juco and a University).
If cheer makes that diploma "go down easier", so be it. LOL! (spoken by a mom who is grateful cheer is still a motivator LOL)

as much as i love cheerleading and i would absolutely LOVE a ring, i have to consistently tell myself that i'm at school to get a degree, not a get a cheerleader. when you fill out a resume for a job, they arent going to care if you have 4 national champion rings. its not a college degree.

once again that comes down to chosen field and priorities. what do you think mattered more to my owner, my masters or my ability to do and teach cheer(im a cheer director). i think those who go to school and never get a degree are silly, but chasing a ring is just another form of dedication to excellence. they are willing to change their entire life for the pursuit of greatness. some people are just scared to do that, and will settle. ive been to three schools, jco-bachelors-masters, have a top notch education, and went to the best schools and won. it can be done. people who drop out of school and dont take it seriously would do that anyway despite the ring chasing portion. if you are a slacker you are a slacker, adding cheer doesnt bring that out. its only a symptom.

well when you put it this way, you have a very good point. im referring more to the kids that go to a different school every year for 4-6 yrs, and dont have any form of degree to show for it. those kids thats put cheer as their first priority over academics. i use cheer to motivate me to be the best i can be and work my butt off for everything i do, but i also know how to prioritize.

I personally cheered for 2 different programs and was fortunate enough to win at both... I certainly don't consider myself a "ring chaser" considering I completed an undergraduate degree at the 1st school (NC State) and a masters degree at the 2nd (Univ of Louisville). I went to NC State right out of high school graduated on the 5 year plan at 22/23 took a year off from cheering then enrolled at UL when I was 24, graduated when I was 26 and enjoyed every SECOND of it... I look at it from the stand point for me that I knew I still had something in the tank and while the opportunity was there I wanted to take advantage of it, all the while not wasting it by also achieving something academically I wanted as well...

I do agree there are those who seem to not be able to hang it up but I say if the opportunity is there take it b/c once its gone you will never get it back...

Yeah, you went to 3 schools and have 3 degrees. That's not ring chasing - that's choosing schools that have well-respected cheerleading programs. Does having a ring really make that much of a difference in how well you can coach cheerleading? I've cheered my whole life and I couldn't and wouldn't want to be a coach - I would be terrible at it. I think I might value a candidate who can show commitment rather than one who attended for different colleges for undergrad just to get a ring - whose to say they won't leave my gym as soon as soon as the opportunity to go to somewhere "better" presented itself.

Although with NCA's new rules from a few years ago (UCA too? I'm not sure) that undergrad cheerleaders have to be full time students it will eliminate the ring chasers who hop from school to school taking a class or two at a time to be on the team with the best chance. When I was in college my coach brought in a few guys and got them enrolled in one online class just so they could compete.

I'm not even criticizing those who transfer schools to be on a better team - up to a point. But if you've been at 4 colleges in 4 years and still aren't anywhere close to graduating, it starts to become a problem.

Ring Chasers are not people who select universities with national contender cheer programs AND the degree program that interests them, stay there to complete their degree and then move on to another degree at another top cheer program. Ring Chasers hop from school to school, sometimes staying at a school for just 2 semesters, and then moving on to another top program every few semetsers....after 6 years they've been to 7 or 8 schools, and usually have no degree and maybe 1 ring to show for it. As a gym owner, I would be hesitant to hire someone like this, because it shows that when they THINK the grass is greener somewhere else, they'll jump ship.

Why does it matter what someone else is doing with their life? I mean really? Just worry about getting your degree and if you already have yours just worry about your own life... I have my degree and cheered in college, but it's none of my business what someone else is doing. Just my opinion.
