I would just like to give a shout out to the pioneers that are working diligently to make competitive cheerleading a NCAA sport. Good luck to all of the six teams attending this 1st annual event- one that I think will take cheerleading at the collegiate level to great heights! This event is sanctioned by the USA Gymnastics Association and will take place at the University of Oregon, April 7-9.

ditto...ditto...ditto. This is a FIRST for the industry! The first true National Championships with a true sport! This is NOT taking away from others, just giving dues to the 6 universities that have spent millions to date to bring these opportunities to these athletes....and we are wishing them well and a good competition!

Good Luck, It is my understanding that STUNT will be holding their National in Daytona during the NCA Nationals.. There are a lot of people working hard to keep the dream of cheerleading becoming a sport a reality.

In less than 2 weeks, HISTORY will be made! Six universities will have accomplished a great feat....they will have created and competed in the first collegiate non-commercial Nationals from a regular season of competition. They HAVE officially created a sport!!! 200 athletes on 6 campuses have done it...they have done it! I will be referring athletes to these teams...what an opportunity!

Absolutely. Nothing against "STUNT" but the fact that they're having their nationals at NCA nationals in Daytona says everything. This thread is talking about the move to make competitive cheer and NCAA SPORT! I have girls involved in both the younger all-star cheer world and NCAA world and I can say I THOROUGLY ENJOY watching both events (competitions and meets). Everybody I have taken to a meet watches this and says something like ..."OK, now I GET it. I understand what goes into that quick 2:30 routine and I REALLY GET the amount of athleticism this SPORT takes." The individual heats leading up to the full routine really helps the lay person understand this SPORT.

THANK YOU to all those pioneers in the NCAA/NCATA effort!

I think the reason STUNT is having their nationals at Daytona this year is to let other schools competing at NCA nationals (who are already in that location) view the format and event. Many colleges haven't seen these types of competitions and viewing it first hand gains interest. They also had meets the day before cheersport and USA nationals, so I guess that's what they're doing this first year. Good Luck to all NCATA and STUNT teams everywhere! No matter which one ends up on top, both are taking cheerleading to the next step! :)

One day until history is made with the first non commercial Nationals! Good luck to all of the NCATA Acrobatics and Tumbling Teams April 7-9,2011 in Eugene, OR.

My thought was that it was more "see! you don't have to give up Daytona to do Stunt!"

If you really want to see A&T in action ... take some time right now & spend $12.95 to watch the semi-finals and the finals being filmed at the University of Oregon as the competition occurs today and tomorrow!

You can't watch NCA Collegiate Nationals, nor were you able to see live the UCA College Nationals, but you can watch the NCATA (National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association) A&T Nationals on live feed from the Matthew Knight Arena! Now this will answer many questions, just remember Title IX does NOT affect All*Star athletes, however NCATA provides more Collegiate Scholarship opportunities for female athletes!

Enjoy! Let's hear what you think about the format after the Nationals are completed!

I love the format of the NCATA meets. However, there is still A LOT of room for improvement, specifically in judging. I k ow this is going to sound like sour grapes but it not. How can an "acrobatics + tumbling" competition NOT reward execution and technique?? Examples are that a team can put up a liberty with flexed feet gets the same score as one putting up stretch/bows? What happened to feet together in tumbling with solid landings? Yesterday UMDs Season WON the tumbling Ariel event final with a 9.5 and 1 hour later was scored with an 8.5 doing the exact same executed pass!!

The other disturbing poi t is that some athletes/programs are simply making a mockery of the showmanship and technique that has always been an I'm important aspect of cheer, gymnastics and acrobatics. I saw such a poor display of attitude and showmanship from these athletes its really disturbing. Yes, I'm speaki g of the Oregon "athletes". What I saw was an OVERCOMPENSATION in trying to show the athleticism of this SPORT. Literally mocking any degree of grace and style. Here's a little fact...fans prefer to watch something exciting, powerful and pleasing to watch. Its OK to smile and point your toes in a stretch, arebesque or tumbling pass! Iis not a SPORT just because you act gruff (and quite frankly I saw displays of crude behavior from some girls on Oregon...extremely embarrassing).

Although I am extremely thankful for the work the NCATA has done I am fearful if this emerging sport turns down this path. I believe this will turn away the athletes and college programs the NCATA is trying to recruit. Of course I am proud of all the athletes that participated(in good sportsmanship) there just a lot of attitudes, rules and regulations that need to be worked through. Of course...just my opinion

Azusa Pacific looked fantastic! They had an unfortunate scoring issue Day 1 where they were called winners and as the girls were lined up to shake hands a mistake was called and the win went to Quinnipiac. I felt horrible for those athletes! Baylor, Quinnipiac, and Fairmont all looked VERY STRONG. It was a pleasure to watch them all compete.

I love the diversity in team style. The point is that you can be as feminine or masculine as you want in this sport, execution is what matters. I have been to 14 meets this year and I have never seen a pass twice by the same athlete that was executed exactly the same.

Season is an outstanding athlete and I enjoy watching her tumble.
