Injuries are a very common thing in our sport but how do you guys/girls deal with season ending injuries. I am not talking about the injury itself, but how do you deal with not being able to compete with your team? I got hurt about 2 months ago (fractured my tibia, and tore 3 ligaments in my ankle) and it basically put and end to my season. It has killed me to sit and watch from the sidelines and now with worlds right around the corner I dont know if Ill be able to handle watching my team take the floor without me.

How are the rest of you dealing with this?

So sorry about your injury! :( My daughter dislocated her elbow midway through this season and was out for multiple competitions. It absolutely KILLED her to sit on the sidelines. She was right in front with the coaches cheering on her teammates when they took the floor, but she was in tears after every performance they did without her because she couldn't be out there with them. It's TOUGH!!

Different sport, same pain. My oldest LOVED Basketball and gave it all she had. She was sixth in the state for rebounds her sophomore year. People commented to us about how they loved to watch her play because of how she would tear down the court to try and intercept a breakaway. Well her junior year she came down on an opposing player's foot after going for a rebound and sprained her ankle and missed the last half of the season. Rough, but okay - senior year is still ahead. Just before they started region play her senior year she blew out her knee going after one of those aforementioned breakaways - tore her ACL, MCL and meniscus. Done. It took me 5 games before I could sit through the game without having to leave in tears watching her sit the bench. She never complained and she sat there and yelled louder than anyone for her team.
I am so sorry for both your injury and your VERY understandable frustration. But all you can do is accept it for what it is and cheer for your team. I know this doesn't really help, but I don't know that anything really will except acceptance. :(

i had to sit out of all levels last year because i had limes disease and it was so hard.. i cried so hard it was ridiculous- and after the online awards i cried even harder cause we won the online grand champs and i knew i wasn't in that routine, it just ripped me apart. i most of the time compete when i hurt since i cant imagine going through that again, but your case is alittle different you cant push threw the pain on that one. i only had a broken foot and tendon damage in my ankle so it wasn't that bad. the best thing to do is just be supportive, inspirational and confident watching your team compete.

i had a bulging disc and i couldn't compete our last 2 competitions. i still went to the gym all the time and i went to the competitions. i still went to warm ups with them, full hair, full make up, and i walked on the floor with them. i just got released yesterday to go back.

I was out from the end of august to january this season and it the worst sitting out. I missed 2 competitions. I had a lot of support from my parents, team mates and coaches and it just made me more determined to come back better than ever! the time off to get better is nessesary but i was always told to get better now and look forward to my future goals!

watching my team take the floor without me absolutely crushed me. i cried in warmups, backstage, while they were competing, after they finished, while they watched the routine, while they were going over scores, and during awards. especially being on the worlds level and knowing my team is going to worlds did not ease the pain. i know it sounds horrible but the crying helped. being able to just cry helped me get over that my season was done. please know that God (or whatever nondenominational diety you worship!) has a plan for you and personally, sitting out only made me a stronger and more driven person. good luck with recovery and dont rush it!

My daughter broke her femur the day before her first day of High School Freshman year last year. She was BEYOND excited to start High School, and of course she missed the first day. She was also on her Varsity Squad at school and had worked her butt off to become flexible to be a flyer for High School who was at that point back to back State Champs. She had to sit through every practice for High School as well as sit on the sideline of every football game, and every All-Star practice. She listened to everything the doctors told her and did everything the physical therapist told her to do. She had to get up early to go to the physical therapist before school so she wouldn't miss anymore school. I will tell you she is much stronger than I could ever imagine to be, and having to sit out and watch everyone just made her more determined to work hard and get back in it. She stretched every practice and did what she could to keep her body in shape to make the transition back to cheer as easy as possible. She AMAZED me how quickly she bounced back. She didn't miss any All-Star Competitions however her tumbling was of course watered down. She threw her first double by herself again on Dec 21st less than 5 months after injury. It killed her to watch her High School team become back to back to back State Champions but she cheered just as loud for them. She said NOTHING was going to keep her from competing at Regions and State this year. Of course she goes and rolls her ankle the day before Regions.....and she held true to what she said. They taped up her ankle really good and she wore an ankle brace over it and did her entire routine, including throwing full to full in running tumbling. I honestly think the injury made her even stronger than she was before. She has her days when she is scared or having a bad day but just do what you can right now and listen to everything the doctors say and do all the physical therapy so that you will be 100% when you get released. :) Good Luck and hope you have a speedy recovery!

Thank you all for your stories, I have learned that injuries are just another hurdle for athletes to overcome. Ill have my time too.

Speaking of injuries... @John Butler is your status true?! I'm so sorry!

I broke a part, not all, but a part of my ankle over the summer when I was really close to my standing bhs. I would always go to the gym and be there for practices but it was really hard to watch all my friends tumbling and stunting without me. It has given me the drive to work harder though

Yes, unfortunately lady luck wasn't on our side this year. Gabi rolled her ankle at practice this past Sunday and broke it. We thought it was just a sprain, but xray confirmed it's broken. She is in a cast until at least May 3, so she'll be watching from the sidelines. It is funny that this post and thread came up this week. I was apprehensive to post anything, but the support has been overwhelming and Gabi truly appreciates it so much. Thank you all! Make sure you come sign her cast at Worlds!

My injury was at the beginning of the season. Literally it happend the day before camp...Worst 3 month ever. PLus it was during my senior year (this year) so i had to cheer at football games in a boot and have crutches the first 2 weeks of school...it was horrible. I had a hair line fracture in my foot, from landing wrong on my full

but this picture makes me laugh every time. I actually get my own page in the year book this year about my injury! lol. & yes i had to doll up my crutches and boot :)
