flick, flip flops, handsprings- they're all the same thing

I prefer backhandspring. BHS makes me think sharp, together,tight....flick or flip flop, makes me think sloppy...it does my daughter the same way too..I guess we're weird! :p BTW, we used BHS, at all of the gymnastic gyms we've been at...I guess different gyms, different names.

my kid was a gymnast when she was young. She had a coach from Russia. She called a back handspring a flick-flack (sp?).

ummm why not just call it a backhandspring?

i think these words were created just to sound original lol
a flip flop is something you wear on your feet (also called slippers...unless that's another tumbling move i don't know about)
a flick is something you do with a booger hahah or a bug
i have no idea what a flick-flack is? sounds like someone covering up vulgar language lol

lmaoo this literally made me laugh out loud hahha

I TOTALLY AGREEE!

Power Tumbling description of a pass:
roundoff ,flic-flac, back somersault straight, whip, whip, flic flac, flic flac, back somersault pike
Cheerleading:
Round off, backhandspring, layout punch, whip whip, backhandspring, backhandspring, backtuck piked

its like learning two tumbling languages :D so my CP is bilingual in tumbling hahahaha!!

When I did gymnastics (back in the day), sometimes the 'rule book' (this giant binder that had USAG instructions for compulsories for each level, such as requirements and coaching stuff) referred to back handsprings as 'flip-flops'. Personally, I think any two-syllable word works well (one for each part of the body touching the ground)..'cause I'm weird like that :p

@Just-a-Mom said that in Chicago they call them flip flops, but it sounds like most of us use BHS. Maybe it's a regional thing, but seeing as how I've heard the Fierce Board is South-heavy, I don't know.

Not South-heavy like the board has a big booty, but South-heavy like there's lots of us from the South...

I grew up in Southern Cali and we called flip flops thongs (guess cause they go between your toes like one) but now that sounds as bad as the flicking your booger reference.

Please no one combine my thong comment with @Mamarazii 's big booty comment. We're starting to come up with too many bad visuals already.

I can't say I have ever heard this, but maybe it just isn't used in the North West which is where I live. I have heard flick though.

We don't use flip-flop down south either...allthough our gymnasts call a bhs a flick & got confused over the cheer rules as some of the wording is different...
