The same thing happened at my school this year. The competition team was set, and we were getting ready to start and our school told us no. They said they didnt have the funds to pay for busing, competitions etc. Alot of us are also allstar cheerleaders so it didnt push us anywhere but definitely a let down.

Cheertyme is not close at all....about a 2 hour drive. The closest would be to go to DelCo and do PASE or TriState, or go to Norristown and do State All Stars.

Mechanicsburg, where Cheertyme has a gym is an hour away. World Cup had a girl travel from the Downingtown Area 1.5 hrs away a couple of years ago. NJSE is also about an hour away.

PASE and TriState are about 30-40 minutes from Downingtown. Not many of these girls will seek out an all-star team to join, in all honesty. Both of these teams have a lot of talent, but the "drive" to compete isn't overwhelming on these teams-for the majority of the girls. Sure, there are some who will be looking for more....but they will just continue to do school cheer and just do games. In a few years, when the economy has recovered and the drama has been forgotten, they'll petition the school board to be allowed to compete again.

Oh, and it's one thing to drive 1.5 hours for World Cup....but for CheerTyme? nah. I mean, Heather was driving to WC when CheerTyme Malvern was practically in her backyard.

The reason for the post was not to imply that any of these kids will go to Allstars. Any girl that would do allstars would already be doing it. I find it ironic that the school board is claiming safety as one of the reasons when it is all about money.

It really is safety, but money plays a part as well. This past season things got really out of hand, one of the teams in particular. The coach was pushing the girls, really not very nice, and their routine had tons of illegal skills. The coach was well aware that the skills were illegal, but put the in the routine anyway. Parents complained (about the illegalities and the way the girls were treated) and this was the outcome. Worked out well for the school district, got to save some money too.
