So this year my parents finally let me cheer at a gym about 45 minutes away, mainly because my dad now works in that city. The practices are great because its one weekday and one weekend, but the problem is I have no way of getting to that one weekday practice (I can get home just fine). I love this new gym so much and I am so happy with the team I'm on. I would just hate to have to leave because of this issue on just one day :S

I know carpool tends to be a popular option, but what if no one from your area practices on the same day and time as you? (Train and/or bus is not really an option in my case)

Anybody else come across this problem? If so, how did it work out?
All advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

The exact same thing happened to me...my program was about an hour away and after a while, my parents couldn't take the commute (along with other things). I understand where they were coming from, but it still sucks. I didn't get to cheer after that, mostly because there is no other programs within a short distance of me.

This has happened to me and ive just had to put up with my dads decision before mine which sucks but i respect the issue. There is no gym in my area either so i am going to do tumbling at my local gymnastics club for a year so i dont lose skills, and then if possible i'll tryout next season.

have you looked outside of your team for people who might be coming from your area on that day, someone who just tumbles? Even if you have to hang out at the gym for an hour before practice starts.

Another option is to recruit someone from your area to join that program, then you have someone to carpool with.

See if your parents can hire someone to take you that one day. We are going to have to do this in the fall in order for my cp to get to practice.

Is there anyway you can meet up with a car pool? Could someone drive you, lets say half way, to the nearest carpool for the night? That way they aren't driving 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back, they are only driving half of that. It might be the best option if this is possible. Also, depending on your school, if there is someone who goes to your school thats from your gym, you could go home with them at the end of the day, go to practice, then come home. (Although, that might be difficult while school isnt in session. eg - summer, school vacations.)

I do what @mecheermom said. My parents pay other family members to take me to practice but it's definitely a financial commitment for cheer.

This is a great idea! Check with the gym owner and see if you can post a car pool notice on a board at the gym. Since you couldn't be truly doing a carpool (taking turns driving) you should offer to pay, especially since gas is so expensive right now!

Yes we did have to quit recently due to it being an hour away as well as family illness. But for 4 years we made it work by getting quite creative. The last year we did it we found people who were somewhere on the way between us and the gym and met up with them. Best thing to do is talk about it at the gym, ask the owners if they know anyone. You'd be surprised at the willingness of dedicated people to help out. Here's one HUGE suggestion: anytime you are in a carpool and someone's helping you out, NEVER, EVER be late! I both helped and had people help me and that was the one courtesy we ALL appreciated! Good luck!

My drive is 3 and a half hours. My mom and i are going to take turns driving and possibly meet members halfway. Maybe you could carpool?

Part of the reason I couldn't cheer anymore (besides going abroad). I think I spent just as much money on transport as I did on cheer :p

Do you pass other gyms on the way? That's a long way! Is that round trip?
