100% totally for cheer. My husband is self-employed and I coach and have a secretarial background so we knew we could work wherever we lived.
Wow that's great!!! and I can bet that the way your season ended last year you're happy with the decision!!!!

We moved from Illinois (in the St. Louis metro area). And originally we were going to move to Stingrays or Cheer Athletics knowing that they were the two biggest gyms in the country. We felt that that would give our girls the best opportunity at success in their sport. I have a brother who lives here in Oklahoma and he kept telling me there was a christian owned gym here named Twist & Shout and I should look them up. I insisted that Oklahoma doesn't have good cheerleading and being a "christian" gym they probably wore skirts down to their knees and babied their athletes for fear of hurting their feelings, etc. etc. Well I went to worlds for the first time that year specifically to watch Rays and CA and while I'm sitting there T&S comes on the floor. I was absolutely awe struck at what I saw. I felt they were just as clean and creative as Rays and CA and if they were truly a christian owned gym then that's where we wanted to be. We made a trip down here, met with Orson (the owner), the girls worked out with the teams they would be placed on and we fell in love right away. We put our house on the market and moved a month later. Crazy, I know. haha But 4 years later both of my girls have won NCA once and my oldest CP also has a world championship ring. :) I definitely believe we chose the right gym and couldn't be happier. :) So there's my psycho cheer mom story. haha

Wow!! What a amazing story. I just could never tell my cp about it cause she we would begging move to Marietta,GA or Kernersville, NC....ASAP...lol!:D

OMG IS RIGHT!!!!!! Are you driving to Canada?!?!? I hope that is there & back. Holy cow!! I do know someone that drives 12 hours but its twice a week, there & back. It must be worth it or I guess you wouldn't go. lol
Well, Its 22 hours together, its 11 hours one way.
Fly? Seriously? Can someone please explain this to me? I just don't get it. This is going to sound snarky, but it's not meant to be. Why in the world would anyone fly to cheer? It's not like you'll go pro and make a ton of money cheering. Gyms can't possibly be in that short supply, even if you live in Nowheresville. I get that people want to be on the "best" team but why not be great on a good team and have a life? Again, this is a serious question, not a snarky judgement.
If you have to ask, You'll never understand.

Me personally,I have no other kids. My daughter is my only one and since my husband and I had 10+ years of married life and we both had 15+ years in job force, when she came along, I was able to retire from my job and as we say, she became my job. My daughter did many other activities, so if we had to drive, we made sure that all 3 places where around each other. I'm not saying it easy, but we made it out, a happier and stronger family. :)

How lucky are you guys! Awesome.

Thank you. :) We never thought we would experience the joy of having a child, so we consider ourselves very lucky & blessed to have our cp and to be able to do the things we do with her.....Even if she does break the bank..lol :)

@JustinSOT
i already asked mclovin the same question about twist and shout... (and same thing goes for SoT, it's not meant as anything negative)... but how did originally find spirit of texas before you started cheering (before i started cheering i only knew about the one in my city because my friends went there)? what made you chose SoT) where are you driving from? are there any good gyms near where you live?

I originally lived in Arlington Texas, about 12 minutes away from Spirit. I had to move to Franklin TN this year just after the season started, I already told them I was gonna do the team, the way I see it its a year long commitment no matter what.

I have to go an hr there and back so it's not too bad, but 4x a week! However I know girls tht drive 3hrs there and back to stingrays and ppl that fly to other gyms!! Those ppl r seriously dedicated!!! I don't think my mom would let me go farther than 2hrs each way!!

Just out of curiosity, how do you manage this? Which days of the week do you practice? And do you typically stay overnight with someone before driving back the next day? Think about it... I'd say on average people are typically awake for 15-16 hours per day... You'd be driving for 11 of those hours, and only have 4 or 5 to do anything else!! Crazy, but amazing dedication :) Props to you!

I traveled 15, 45, and 1 hr 30 mins. Hopefully ill be traveling 1 hr 30 mins again soon.
