So yesterday cheering at our JV fball game the opposing squad(who my step-cousin cheers for) was wearing sleeveless crop shells. So I was talking to her after the game and I asked her how they were allowed to wear them for the game and she said they even wore them to school that day...I thought my uniform was bad showing a little line of skin, but wow imagine wearing a half shell to class! But in all seriousness their squad looked great in them, they were def flattering on them. But ooo how scandalous:cheering:

Any thoughts? I know there is a ban on these for comps, but i'm sure if a HS wanted they could wear them for every game...its their choice, i was just surprised to actually see a school wear them.

Its actually against NFHS rules, which are nationwide rules that cover all sports programs regardless of if they cheer only game time or also compete......

While the school may have it as a tradition or something, IMO they need to retire those uniforms and get full tops. I'm guessing at school they aren't allowed to wear shirts that expose their stomach on normal class days, so cheer unifomrs should be no different, especially if they are wearing them to school. It's only one negative article away from becoming a blown out of proportion story on the local news, reinforcing negative stereotypes about cheerleading.

i agree. The only thing i know is that her school is really into spirit hardcore....they have a great football team....like always #1 in the state so it is possible that they overlook the dress rules for cheerleaders. They have like 4 squads and multiple outfits for each...freshman, soph, JV, and varsity plus a pom and kickline squad ! We play them again in 2 weeks, im anxious to see if they wear them again. But they should def retire them!

i just don't think it's appropriate for high school teams to wear crop shells, especially because at that age when girls may be wanting to begin cheering for the first time the crop shells may discourage them from trying the sport. also, there are girls on hs teams that are only 14 or so years old and i don't think they should be wearing them at that age. i love the look for college teams, but i think hs teams should stick to full tops..

whats your opinion on allstar? especially mini-junior?

i think that's different because high school is to promote school spirit so it should be a little more wholesome. allstar is in an environment of mainly cheerleaders, theres no creepy old men who are there to watch a football game at an allstar competition so the little girls in crop shells are surrounded by other cheerleaders and people who are there strictly to watch cheerleading so they understand that the half tops are part of the sport and dont look at it in a creepy way. also, crop shells in allstar cheer make it easier to move because they are typically doing more advanced tumbling and stunts so it makes sense for them to have crop shells because its easier to move in

its not really all that different think about it you just said 14 year olds shouldnt be wearing them so whats the difference for minis and juniors, if anything its more of a problem to have 3-9 year olds wearing crop tops then it is 14 year olds
lets face it with the lace shirt and middrift trend thats going around its really not that different?
im not saying this to start drama im just saying it to me seems its contradictory nobody really knows if people are at a competition to strictly see the competition

on another note, i dont really mind the idea of having crop tops dependent upon the team, my high school (in canada) had crops for our competition team the only difference being they were the long crop tops that only show off maybe 3 or 4 inches of skin

There was a case just last year where a guy was arrested for indecent exposure at a cheer comp. He didn't have ties to anyone at the comp, he just went in. Here's a link with the info, it was in Louisville:

We had them in high school (I graduated in 06) but they were not short like all star crop tops but not full tops either. We rarely ever wore them because they were un comfortable (they had those tacky fly away skirts).

I personally love the look of a clean full top uniform especially for college and high school so I would do away with the uniform.

look at the pot calling the kettle black.

What point are you trying to make?

I was politely saying you don't have to be mean. Even in discussions where I don't agree with someone you won't find anywhere that I put someone or there opinion down to make my point.
