Soooo I'm currently so in love with Shooting Stars that I'm trying to work out how to get from my friends school in NJ to the WC gym so I can witness that for myself!! Been cheering on CEA for the past two seasons (especially after my year in North Carolina) but Shooting Stars made me remember why they were my favourite team all those years ago when I first starting cheering. I'm in love all over again. Large Senior is going to be so fierce this year! Wish I could go to Worlds!!

It is my understanding that the Stars only started to run the routine full out with in the past 2 weeks. Great job by them only performing it a hand full of times to date. Keep in mind as well that this routine has all the elements to hit and max out the score sheet. By the time they head west next month they will be tuned up and ready to fight for a bid.

what other teams are going with Stars to American Grand??

Everyone knows where I stand, but I can be objective so..
Here's my take on Shooting Stars:
  • Standing Tumbling - Strong
  • Running Tumbling - Strong
  • Stunt - I would like to see 1-1/2 up to stretch, press, full up scorpion, sponge switch up to opp. stretch then high high
    • I feel like full up to body positions is so 2 years ago.
  • Jumps - I like their creative approach to jumps, and the fact they are doing (4) timing/flexibility will evolve.
  • Baskets - They hit the score sheet, execution wise they will evolve.
  • Pyramid - They start out strong and creative, and then it died for me - I'm sure more attention will be paid to the pyramid as the season progresses and it will fill in more.
  • Dance - Mute point, it hits the score sheet - it was entertaining, but not one of their epic dances in my book.

Disagree with Running Tumbling/Standing Tumbling: No real sync tumbling with more than 5 individuals at once which I think will hurt them considering the value sync tumbling will take on this year (i say 5 bc i can't really tell how many arabians there are, not that you need 5 for sync tumbling)

8 full outs prior to Kickoff

There are 4 arabians from the side. And 3 fromt he corner

Does no one remember F5 last year? They had 1 group of 5 tumble. And one group of 6 or 7. Other than that it was smaller groups doing specialty passes.

What will score you higher in sync is having smaller groups (3-5) doing extremely difficult passes) rather than having a group of 10 fulls.

Also as a side note, that gym was disgustingly hot and humid. Warm ups were extremely fast as it was getting very late (wasn't over til 10). I know there were several people on Lazers who didn't do all of their skills because it was so gross and harder to breathe in there. Not making excuses for any of the teams, just letting you know how it is.

Lazers have my 2nd favourite routine that I've seen come out of that Kick Off, really really good routine.
I don't understand these people saying Stars need more difficulty. It seems that these days people think more difficulty means more tick tocks, and it really doesn't. They do 2 full up elements, both hitting on one foot/in a body position, two release elements, one stretch to (what I'm assuming will later become) scale high to high, one switch up bow, and a flipping element in the 2nd stunt. If you think that isn't difficult, take a look at a score sheet, they will score actually quite high in stunting.

Agreed, they full up twice in their elite and do high to high tick tock. They also full up to their pyramid with 1/2 turn bird fronts. That is pretty hard to me. I think anything else would be messy. I love the routine as is.

What some people here need to realize is that Shooting Stars have never been the team to overload a routine with skills they can't hit. And I don't know why any teams actually do that. I think it is a lot more beneficial to water down skills so the girls can hit, rather then have them throw harder skills and fall all over. Building confidence in your team early in the season is one of the best things a coach can do.

And thats exactly what is done with stars. Build them up in the beginning so they have the confidence to add difficulty.

I agree with this coaching philosophy 100%. Thanks for spelling it out so clearly.
