University of Hawaii/HPU. Can't just hop in a car and drive there, and plane tickets are crazy expensive. It was around $300-$400 to fly there from CA. Any of the big name teams that draw a lot of talent are probably stressful to try out for.

PS...it's not technically difficult to try out anywhere. All you have to do is work hard and do your best :)

I know Louisville is 3 to 4 full days, with the last in the Arena in the hard floor filled with 100's of people that paid to watch. Cuts are through the day after each session. There are 3 to 4 sessions on Saturday. Not uncommon to be standing at the door of the arena at mid night waiting for the final list to be posted. Most years they start with about 250 to 400 kids trying out for aprox 150 spots. One of the hardest and intense tryouts I have ever seen.

Regardless of where you are going you should see if the school hosts a pre tryout clinics or evaluations. It will relieve a little of the stress

#1, you have to be invited to tryout at UK so in essence, if you don't make that "cut" you aren't walking in the door and trying out.
#2 UK generally invites 30-40 girls, and 30 or so guys.
#3 UK tryouts begin on a Thursday and end with open tryouts on Sunday. Cuts are made each day, usually beginning Friday. Each day has two sessions, interviews are on Sundays.

Have no clue about any other program, but I would imagine the top programs are equally challenging.

I feel like for Louisville it is like a tryout all year to get that spot on the mat so while it seems like you have made it and tryouts are over they really aren't especially with how hard it is to make mat for any of the 3 teams there. I would imagine it would also make athletes a bit more nervous because the public is there to watch as well.

Good point I missed that whole part.. lol You are correct, even though you are on UofL you still have to make Matt and are always being looked at.. In a sence tryouts are ongoing through out the year..

I think all the top competitive programs are pretty much like that..making the team is one thing....making mat is entirely something else! Stay focused, positive, and keep working those skills!

I think most colleges tryout in front of the public. I actually preferred it and found it less nerve racking then being in a quiet gym in front of a panel of judges. To me thats not normal or realistic for a cheerleader to be alone in a quiet room in front of judges.

I know that it's much easier trying out for non-competitive squads like Auburn and Florida but there's a downside as Auburn has only one large coed squad (10 guys and 10 girls) and the fact the it's very difficult to get accepted to UF.

The University of Minnesota's coed and all-girl cheerleading squads have been constant finishers at the UCA College Nationals.
Oh I know:) I was just wondering how competitive the tryouts were because of that. Like, do they have lots of people tryout? And other people had said that they tryout for the public (like Louisville) does anybody know if Minnesota does anything like that?

i'll be trying out for UK (i've already been invited to tryouts) and Louisville this spring, does anyone have any inside advice from former tryouts? it'd be really helpful since it's only november and i'm already nervous! I've already been to numerous UK clinics so i know the tryout process but i'm yet to attend a Louisville clinic so can someone explain to me the tryout process there?
