They only went for the easy bid
exactly, and i really dont think its far to those teams who for wxample cant get a bid in indy becasue they dont have to tumbling or somthing in that range. i understand they go up against those teams at worlds but for some teams its just the experience of worlds not going there and winning.

Sidenote: It snowed up here on Friday night, and the first thing I thought when I saw it was whether or not Top Gun would be excited to be in Wisconsin in the snow.

Rumor on the street had it that The competition company INVITED Top Gun and paid for hotel and waived comp fees for Top Gun to come up. They were just responsible for flights/travel. I guess a few of the kids told this to people at the competition. I don't think anyone is mad at Top Gun for it, nor should they. It comes down to the competition company. I got SEVERAL phone calls from coaches there this weekend about shady things the judges were saying and doing.

This is a classic example of why we will NEVER be considered a sport. There should be a rule against this, and if there is even a question of this happening, USASF should be involved and there should be an investigation and proof the gym paid for comp fees and hotels. If the rumor is true - the bid should be stripped and this EP should no longer to host USASF sanctioned events, and there should be some sort of penalty for the gym as well. Sadly, USASF allows situations like this on a regular basis, so you can't fault either the EP or the gym if the rumor is true, but it really is pathetic and disheartening.
BTW, I am not looking to take anything away from Top Gun. After watching the day 2 video, Top Gun looked great and most likely deserved the bid so congratulations to them!

Professional Golf tournaments pay "appearance" fees for players all the time. As a matter of fact this happens in most individual sports all the time. While cheerleading is not an individual sport, it does have the same type of scheduling as individual sports.

socratesofcheer beat me to it...but you can't possibly think this is why we will NEVER be considered a sport? I was actually reading this thinking "Oh yay! Maybe now we can be considered a sport!" ALL sports do things like this. Sports are governed by money. Money money money. And anything controlled by money is NEVER going to be completely fair to all parties. Sorry...that's life.
