In all reality top gun has never had a problem obtaining a paid bid, which is why if they dont receive one they dont go. So why is it that just out of no where they decide to go to such a SMALL competition that is practically unheard off? Why is it that members of i5 were confused on why they were here in the first place, and why is it that the judge of deductions was Chris Tsinadis? Who has been affiliated with Top Gun for MANY MANY years. Why is it that xtreme spirit claims to give the paid bid to a clean routine that hits, yet they say that top guns difficulty is why their deductions didnt do much to their score? Yet they tell us that because our dedcution is why were placed so low but our difficulty didnt matter? Why is it that everyone was complaining about it all weekend? why is that this isnt the first year that xtreme spirit has been bashed for this? Why is that the owner of xtreme spirit has such a hatred towards ultimate athletics that he will not allow them to compete anymore? If you were at this competition you would know exactly what I am talking about. If you werent you really have nothing to say.

Before we all go flying off the deep end about this, I think we should take a deep breath and relax. For one thing, I think it's very serious to assume that Xtreme Spirit paid for them to come, paid for rooms at the Kalahari, or earned the bid unfairly. Did you hear this from the someone at Xtreme Spirit? Or are you assuming? From what I have read on this thread, there are many people that feel they earned the bid. I don't know because I wasn't there, so I won't assume I know anything.
Someone from xtreme spirit told me. LONG LONG ago they told me that they were having top gun compete at their bid competition but I never thought it was true. Even the parents of the kids on top gun were talking about it at the bar how all they had to pay for was airfare and how all the kids stayed at the house and the parents stayed at the hotel. I'm sorry but if you honestly think otherwise about this, you are being very nieve.

If you were a gym owner basing where to compete off of not inconveniencing programs outside your own you wouldn't be in business very long. Our Worlds teams spent thousands of dollars last year going to two out of state competitions which they won and even got Grand Champs at one and were not awarded paid bids at either. Going to this competition was a business decision for our gym used to help secure a paid Worlds bid, b/c as a gym we feel that if our teams are eligible for a paid bid throughout the season and don't receive one than they probably shouldn't be competing at Worlds. I understand that not everyone thinks this way but for our program Paid or Not At All is a positive push for our athletes knowing that they have to be on point as much as possible.

For those who gave congrats, thank you, this years i5 is comprised of many new members to our program, some of whom have never had the opportunity to be on a team of this caliber and are ecstatic. Trust that they will be in the gym working on the next phase of upgrades and choreography to help defend those globes ;-)

I appreciate you giving your viewpoint! Can you put the rumors to rest and confirm that registration fees were not waived and were paid for by Top Gun and that Xtreme Spirit didn't pay for Top Guns hotels?

I think you mean "naive", and thanks for checking but I am not naive. I don't doubt that something like this could happen, has happened, etc. I just think that you're really throwing a lot of accusations around that sound like hearsay. I am not in love with Xtreme Spirit's competitions or anything, but it's a lot for me to believe that all of your accusations are 100% truth. Maybe we should agree to disagree.

oh thanks autocorrect. I wasnt directing that towards you, I was saying it in GENERAL. It is not hearsay, I have NOTHING against Top Gun, they are a great program, what I have a problem with is that this is allowed. Why would I be making something like this up? Its not like that paid bid was about to be ours. It is unfair that teams will pay thousands of dollars to have a chance at that bid but it is handed to a team that is talented but brought to the competition by the competition.

On a side note:

I have been on a few Open teams (level 5 & 6) where the gym was able to get our entrance fee waived for the competition or reduced.

Yes, unfortunately there were occurances this weekend that sort of left a bad taste in our mouth. Besides scheduling issues with our crossovers due to the small number of lower level teams, we also had issues with incorrect deductions for 2 of our teams on the first day, and had to wait almost 3 hours to get that taken care of. (With that said, The safety judge couldn't have been nicer and more apologetic.) However, then the icing on the cake for Day 2 was when our Junior 3 team was announced at awards as 3rd, and was a far ahead 1st on day 1. They read the results backwards, and so the team lost "their moment". Equally terrible is the team that was announced 1st, that were probably even more disappointed when they realized they weren't.
Not to mention, the scoresheet is completely bogus. A tumbling touchdown is -1, and a stunt fall is -1? A tumbling bust is -5 and a stunt fall is -5?? That's crazy. Not to mention they didn't reward difficulty at all. Our Senior 4 on day 1 with 15 kids, did 4 tick up stretch full downs, then 3 tick ups, 3 1 1/2 ups, 3 full arounds, and some other transitional stuff. Day 2 we took out 2 of the full arounds, and made the 4 tick up stretches go straight up just to make sure they hit clean and we got the same difficulty score...Uh??? It doesn't make sense.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU! EXACTLY MY POINT MADE. I know you saw us day two in one of the halls, we took ALL the difficulty out of our stunts and put up ALL straight up stunts just to prove a point. Which is why I am saying that it is so unfair that top gun can drop that many stunts yet THEIR difficulty is recognized.

Glad we weren't the only team that didn't understand the judging. What gym are you from?
