WOW! No offense but a team that got 4th place out of 5 can get a bid because the EP decides to ask for 4 more bids to give out yet my cp's team got 1st in her division at GLCC but still didn't get a bid. hummmm, somethings not quite right. So they were able to give out 10 at large bids...again, WOW!

How many teams were at this bid event. I know there were 30+ at GLCC and they weren't handing out extra bids.

I believe there were around 20 going for (the now 10) at large bids

How many teams were there total though? That's what decides how many bids a competition is allowed to give out.

I'm not sure but I know there were alot more teams that already had bids at this competition compared to GLCC. I think there was 15 senior teams going for the 3 bids designated for them (but there was the disclaimer that Cheer Power could give out any of the bids originally designated for the Intl teams to a senior team)

I remember being at Cheersport a few years ago and a 9th place team got an at large bid to Worlds. We all know its a money maker but it's also about giving kids a chance to compete at Worlds. If the families of these athletes want to spend the money for the trip, who cares. No one has to sit and watch the teams they don't want to, go get a coke and nachos if they're on in between a "good" team, and these teams are certainly not a threat to the teams that have a paid bid.

Well if this is any indication of anything (let's say caliber of teams?) BCE placed 8th out of 11 at UCA (where they received their bid) and was in 1st for the PAID bid after day 1 and was really one of the only teams that had a solid "hit" in level 5

Unfortunately, there are so many teams in the Small Senior and Small Coed divisions that they must compete in prelims early Friday morning. It used to be that the top half moved on to Saturday. Now it's only the top 10 will move on (in Coed's case, more than 40 teams). So if a team doesn't make it to Saturday, they are "stuck" there (granted, Disney isn't the worst place they could be) until Monday morning and we have still paid all that money. I agree with you that giving out lots of bids gives more teams the opportunity to compete at Worlds...I just wish it wasn't so expensive to have the "opportunity."

I will agree...

(Also, her team beat now 3 teams that have bids in the same division)....just doesn't seem right!
My daughter's team beat both teams that now have paid bids, but it just wasn't their weekend. We took the loss as our loss, not as we were cheated out of a paid bid. We knew we didn't compete to the caliber of a world's paid bid team and we didn't earn our bid when it really counted. We are thankful we are going to Worlds on an at large bid, not happy about having to compete on Friday, but we determined our own fate and we will accept it with the knowledge that we weren't able to step it when it really counted. Good luck to all the teams competing at worlds, whether there on an at large bid or some sort of paid bid!!
