How many gyms are USASF certified gyms?

Are any of the gyms that are USASF certified ones that hired those sketchy coaches?

Last time I was given an official count (roughly 6-9 months ago), it was so low my jaw literally dropped. Only 1 in the state I reside in and there are easily over 100 gyms here. The worst part is, there is no fee to be a certified gym, other than the costs incurred meeting the requirements. I do know that one gym that is certified reported their insurance rates were lower because of it.

I do know that ever school system I coached for asked for fingerprints (typically taken at the local PD, which was so much fun). If they can ask for it, why can't allstars? Between that and a background check, if someone has something to hide, you might find out right then and there when they withdraw their application to coach instead of submitting the requested items.

Schools are government run. Things are a bit different there.

Which would mean that would be the most likely place for the ACLU to come running in screaming "discrimination!" but, at private clubs (country clubs, all star gyms....anything where you pay a membership) the organization can set their own rules and requirements for both members and employees. This is how country clubs get away with not allowing women, or not allowing anyone but the lilly white.

Those were my thoughts exactly. While I understand what kingston is saying, I work for the government. Everything here is SO beyond cautious it's ridiculous. We have so many policies and procedures in place to keep from discriminating against anyone or anything or basically hurting anyones darned feelings. It's like the floor is made of eggshells some days. If we have to submit to voluntary background checks, fingerprinting and drug testing on a regular basis, why couldn't a private organization require the same thing? I know that when I coached at schools, I submitted without giving it another thought because I wanted the position. I also know I was paid roughly $.75 an hour to coach then (and was still one of the top paid cheer coaches in the state). However, when I worked at an allstar gym, I was compensated MUCH better for my time and afforded so many more opportunities than scholastic cheerleading provided me with. Why would someone not be willing to submit to the same types of testing when the return is even greater? Why would an owner not want to have these checks and balances in place to ensure their athletes are safe?
