All-Star Worlds 2013 Finals On Monday?

I'm sorry, can somebody explain how moving the ICU to Monday will prevent overcrowding during the club divisions on Sunday? National teams either arrive well in advance of the event to combat jetlag or they are compete with their club teams and then their country. Those athletes, parents and fans will still be at the event.

It has nothing to do with overcrowding. Moving worlds to Sat,Sun,Monday eliminates an overlap with ICU which prevents any issues with crossover from Team USA and their all-star teams competing in US Trials/prelims.

worlds wouldnt be worlds without teams from other countries to me.

I am still completely befuddled by the entire notion of a group trying to find ways of reducing paying customers from attending an event. Especially since this event provides the vast majority of the annual funding for that group.

There are lots of group sponsors/organizers in this country that would love to have this problem. And I bet they would be searching for ways to accomodate all the paying customers and searching for options to allow more.

OK, so there is this new thing called the Summit.... It is taking place at Disney and is basically worlds. Why couldn't they use the Summit to fulfill their contractual obligation and move worlds to another venue?

I know the Summit is Varsity and Worlds is USASF, but I believe there have been several threads where it was mentioned they are almost one in the same legally, etc.

The contract might be for specific dates - dates that they have already posted on their website for the next few years. So they would probably have to put Worlds somewhere else using those dates (since they've already posted them) and make the Summit the same weekend at Disney. Which is a terrible idea.

Of course, changing the dates of Worlds doesn't seem like that big of an idea, but who knows.

Honestly I think this "Summit" is being "tested" to takeover when 2014 gets here and World's moves. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

That is true. I am sure dates are in the contract. They could always move the weekends around. And i am sure a company could purchase the contractual venue from USASF. But who knows. Only 2 more years of this i guess isn't awful.

My thoughts... It's WORLDS! I taught Secondary School for almost 20 years... If a gymnast, soccer player, hockey player or insert "SPORT" here> ___________ had to miss school for WORLDS in their respective sport, teachers and schools see this as an 'exception' due to the caliber & level of expertise they have attained-- it implies they are a World Level athlete and they are viewed as the "grey area where not all rules apply to all people". I've written letters to Professors & Teachers to help students get out of exams or to get 'clearance' so many times... In fact, because I have a Masters Degree in Teaching, I've even convinced University Professors to allow the athletes to write the exam at Worlds with my overseeing it and then expediting it to them. Conclusion> We must demand to be treated equally to World Athletes of other sports because our Worlds is no different! Anyone wanting a copy of a letter I've written, email me at [email protected]

Even if the event stays as is.. don't people fly out on Monday so you STILL miss Monday?

Yeah I think everyone is making this out to be more of an issue than it really is. So you miss Monday and Tuesday that week instead of just Monday, but you don't have to miss either Wed or Thurs of the previous week (depending on when you flew in last year).

People just don't like change so they like to complain.

That being said, a teacher on my open team did fly back Sunday night - we assumed we weren't making finals - because she couldn't miss another day of school. But even she wouldn't have a problem because she can fly in Thursday night instead of Wednesday night like last year.

Well, I can tell you why I am not excited about it...the way it has been, you COULD have your kids miss NO school. If worlds was on Monday this past year, my older simply would not have been able to go to Worlds due to the attendance policy at the school she was at. She does not have school on friday, so she didn't miss anything for Friday. We drove back through the night on Sunday so she could go to school Monday. If finals were on Monday, she would have been unable to participate. So for situations such as that, it really stinks. School has to take precedence, and in some situations, kids simply can NOT miss school. So my child missed NO school by attending worlds this past season.

You're right, and I don't mean to belittle those for whom this will be an issue. But just as your CP didn't have class on Fridays, there are probably just as many who don't have class on Mondays (I didn't my senior year, for example). Again, nothing is going to work for everyone, and I'm sure many children and parents had a hard time missing Friday work or school for prelims this year, even if you didn't.

I think Friday affects far less high school and college students than Mondays/Tuesdays do. JMO, but I think moving finals to Monday will affect a LOT of people

yep friday is the last day of classes for me...so teachers don't really do anything. Monday and Tuesday are finals...I think its safe to say that is a big difference than just missing a day of school...
