See, this is why it's bothering me so much. Most people have done choreo by now, or are at least working on it and most people have their music ordered, but then to just drop the time limit down to 2 minutes is ridiculous. However, you could still compete in the Rec division, just register with AYC, it's super easy and it's only $20.00 per team. They give you team rosters and a certificate to go with it.

So much for advanced planning! That stinks... but wasn't 2 minutes for all star rec a USASF rule instituted a few months back ?
Yes but jam told me and the other coach that they were sticking with 2:30 thats why we based our entire season around their competitions - we had intended on trying a few as regular allstars as well- WSF didnt have the 2 min 30 sec - now we have to change not only our entire routines but also our competition schedule because we cant compete at WSF with only 2 minutes against real allstars who have 2 min and 30 seconds- we would be beyond crushed.

What is AYC and where is it located out of? we are in new york.

Errrr....... Jam Brands didn't change anything for rec? They're just adhering to the USASF's definition of All Star Prep, which states that routines are 2:00. If you register your team in the rec division, routines are still 2:30.

It's American Youth Cheer, linked with American Youth Football. They have it all over the country and you can link yourselves to them as a rec team even if you're competitive only.

What's the difference between AYC and Pop Warner? Are they the same?

Kind of, there's a lot more freedom with AYC though. You don't have to be linked to a football program to be registered under them and they take competitive only teams, where with Pop Warner there's just that city's league and both cheer and football fall under it. We have an AYF football team in our city, but we don't have to cheer for them just because we're AYC and in the same city.

If you look here, "Cheer Teams" are limited to 2:30. That includes all star, school, rec and college teams. The only division limited to 2:00 is All Star Prep. You're not competing as All Star Prep, right? I think Jam Brands might have muddied the waters in the email that they sent out today, since they included All Star "Rec" under All Star Prep, but I'm guessing they did that because All Star Prep last year was called All Star Rec at some competitions.

You still have the option of just competing in the regular allstar division at 2:30 using the choreography and music you've already done

Yes but unfortunately since we are a rec team there is NO way we are ready for true allstar and we would be competing against really big name gyms from jersey and the surrounding areas. We dont have the tumbling that an allstar team has- not even close. And being our first year in allstar coming from town I think it would kill my kids.

I'm guessing that you'll see a few of those big name gyms that you are trying to avoid in the prep division as well
