Today there was a school shooting in an elementary school in Newton Ct, about 20 minutes from where I live. Right now there are around 20 confirmed deaths, most of them are children. It is a tragic event and I know the families will greatly appreciate prayers.

Cnn.com is having minute by minute updates for people interested in the story.

Just heard about it and I am literally in tears. This is all so sick, I don't even know what to think... Prayers for all of those involved. Also don't forget to pray for the families of the shooters.... it must be very hard on them to realize that somebody they know and love has caused this awful tragedy.

this is heartbreaking. 2 weeks before Christmas. some people are just sick prayers to all the families involved

I am so sad about this tragedy, I am praying for everyone involved. Poor innocent souls

This is absolutely heartwrenching. I can't wait to get home and hug my babies. Senseless, ridiculous, cowardly act of violence towards the only truly innocent things left in this world.

I can't wrap my head around it. But, I'm more angry than anything else! I'm so angry about it! I don't care how %#£€Ed up your life is, how depressed, or angry or upset or whatever you are...see a shrink, get some meds, grow a spine, find a hobby, get your head out of your backside...or don't. But, you don't have the right to kill other people's babies because your life sucks. If things are so bad you're going to take your own life....fine....no one is stopping you...but you don't get to take others lives just because yours is in the toilet. They didn't ask for you to spread your misery among them, their classmates and their community.

The sheer arrogance that you think you're that important that its okay for you to check out and take others with you just infuriates me. It infuriates me for all those innocent kids, and the adults that tried to save them that now their life is over because this clown wanted to end his own.

I just can't understand it. These were babies. And the adults were people who dedicated their lives (with no pay and even less respect) to teaching babies. They didn't deserve this and neither did the people that loved them. I know everyone will say god has a plan etc...and I don't want to start a religious war, but at times like these.....I can't possibly fathom what such a plan could ever be.

Senseless.

And I'm still angry.

I couldn't have worded it better myself....Prayers to everyone involved in this. Such a shame

Just wait, I'll reach critical mass as soon as the public school haters come out and start blaming this on the school not having enough security, or having done enough to keep kids safe or some nonsense.

This was the fault of one sick, evil individual and could've happened at a bank, a playground, a grocery store, an NBA game, a movie theatre....

...this is a symptom of our society. Not of our public schools.

We've been following this all day - we work with schools and teachers so this hits very close to home. We just heard that the shooter was a 20 year old man from NJ and his mother worked in the school.
Prayers to all the families and to everyone who was affected by this senseless tragedy.
