Just curious, but what is the functionality of a skort? What makes it any better than a traditional skirt or shorts? Is there a functional purpose or is it just another trend?

this is from article that i read at internet:
" In the 19th century, women began to want skirts that were divided so they could ride astride instead of sidesaddle. Divided skirts were greatly similar to a regular skirt in length and quantity of fabric. They did give women a little more freedom and especially gave them the chance to retain their modesty while participating in activities. Gradually divided skirts began to use less fabric, becoming the modern pants worn by women today.
Many women like the ease and freedom of the skort, and the fact that it reveals less of the figure than does a pair of shorts. The skort can hide any perceived figure faults, and remains slightly dressier than shorts."

i find (with ACX skorts) you get the comfortable fit of shorts with the cute look of a skirt all in one piece that does not ride up!

I always assumed it was so you didn't have to worry about the back of your skirt popping up during tumbling and then having to pull it down. Or maybe to give a little extra uniformity between boys & girls on coed teams. Or maybe to slightly (and I mean very slightly) reduce the cost of uniforms because you don't need bundies/spandex/spankies/lollies (whatever you call them) with a skort. Okay...that's a bit of stretch, hah.

i just remember always seeing girl's skirts rotating so the side would be the front by the end of the routine.

This was seriously the worst problem when we had the fin cutout on our skirt. I would end the routine with the fin right where it shouldn't be... I'm sure GreatWhite92 feels me on that one... Haha

I actually like the CNY uni!! I think I like it bc the purple looks like the sky at dusk. (I'm assuming that was the point.) I don't think it's too much purple at all. If it was a solid purple all over the uni maybe, but it darkens here and there so it works. Congrats CNY it's a good uni, both full and crop, in my book!

I don't like the skort. From behind very few girls look good. The skort is cut for the skirt which makes the back fit weird, more like just your spankies showing in the back. Where if a true short, it's cut more flattering all the way around.
Overall I'm a traditionalist and prefer the skirt, short enough to make it easy to move. You can have the spankies built in which prevents spinning. JMO

Nope..not overthinking it. I think if you go back 100 pages or so, there are comments on Cheer athletics too. I think they camouflage it better than others with patterns and/or black, but some butts should not be in spankies... again...JMO
