Imagine how the girl that was underage and pulled in last minute is feeling right now...it may not have been her fault but she probably feels terrible since the team got disqualified.
I do believe the coaches should have made sure to check the age but I also feel that the team that reported Karma should have done it before they competed...whether or not it's primarily PCM's fault, there's no reason the other gym would have waited unless they purposely wanted Karma out of the running and that's a terrible display of sportsmanship.

I don't see how it's a terrible display of sportsmanship... They obviously would have to see the underage athlete actually compete with the team first before informing the judges. Otherwise people would accuse them of making false allegations if they told the judges first and then the athlete wasn't actually on the floor with that team.

Also just to be fair , a couple years ago the team my cp was on knew another local so cal team that had someone too young, our coach approached the ep before the team competed so they wouldn't take the floor and get dq'd and at first she was told there was nothing that could be done until they performed because they hadn't broken any rules yet. It took about a week and finally the EP accepted all the evidence and Informed the team the night before. I don't know if it would still take tht much work to stop someone before they perform, but in both cases as a parent I would be upset especially if I traveled . So what happens now? Just wondering....

but do you think that if they would have beaten karma they would have still reported them?
It shouldn't matter whether a team was in first or last - if they knew a team was breaking the rules they should report it. I can't get over how many people are making the team that reported the rule infraction the "bad guy" - they absolutely did the right thing and I commend them for it. Our "sport" will never grow if we keep looking the other way and/or do not uphold the published rules. PCM can make excuses all they want (and in fairness I am not sure anybody directly affiliated with the gym has actually posted about this), but there are enrollment forms, release forms, all sorts of forms that are supposed to be REQUIRED for an athlete to participate with a gym that ask for a date of birth, so there should be no reason for a gym owner not to know the correct age of an athlete. I have no issue if it was an honest mistake - and I am sure it was, but trying to justify it and say it wasn't their fault is ridiculous.

Good point! I can agree with that.

when did i say it wasnt their fault? all i recall saying is that everyone makes mistakes..

I don't understand all the drama this is causing. A team did some against the rules and they were caught, which caused them to be disqualified. The end.

Who cares how they were caught, when they were caught, who reported them, etc. This whole situation is being blown way out of proportion. This isn't Worlds.

I care. I think it says a lot about the programs involved, the competition company and how they handled it, and shows me that someone actually enforces the USASF rules. Call me crazy, but these are things I want to know.

If someone is accused of cheating, it's not "oh whatever" to me. You are a cheater. And before I label a program cheaters, I want to know details and make sure I'm making a fair judgement of the situation.

Since karma is international and already had an at large bid aren't they allowed to now add younger kids matching the international rules???
