How about a contest where we guess who will win the 8 paid bids that NCA is offering this weekend? FYI- NCA gives out bids first to it's division winners, then the next highest scores in all of its L5 Worlds-eligible divisions. Many teams already have paid bids, so they will get "skipped" in the list. Your job is to predict the top 8 teams. (in any order). As a tiebreaker, also guess what the "cutoff" score will be - the the lowest score that still wins a paid bid (bid #8).

Here's mine as an example (in alphabetical order)

Champion Cheer Heat (SS)
Cheer Athletics Swooshcats (MS)
Gym Tyme Black (IOC)
Gym Tyme Platinum (MC)
Texas Lonestar Red (MC)
Tribe Cheer Chiefs (SC)
Top Gun (IOC)
Woodlands Elite (IOC)

Cutoff Score: 94.75

*I haven't seen most of the eligible teams, so mine are mostly wild guesses.

Can someone clarify the bid process for me? For example, if I predicted IO5 standings to be 1. GT Pink 2. Cali Sparkle, and Pink already has a paid bid. Would Sparkle get the paid by default? Is that how it works? BlueCat ASCheerMan

They make a list - division winners at the top and then all of the other teams (from all of the divisions) ranked by score. Then they go from top to bottom to determine paid bids. So if Pink has a paid bid and Sparkle is second in that division, they don't get a paid bid if there are 8 teams or more ahead of them score wise (no matter the division).
So: if all division winners already have a paid bid, technically all 8 paid bids could end up in a single division if the 2nd-9th team in that division outscore all of the other 2nd-last place teams of all of the other divisions.

To be in the contest, you have to list exactly 8 teams. Highest number right wins. If there is a tie, the closest guess to the cutoff score breaks the tie.

This year, if you win your L5 Worlds division, you get a paid bid if you don't already have one. They take ALL of the L5 Worlds teams that don't have a paid bid AND didn't win their division and rank them by score. They just work their way down that list until they have given away all 8. If you don't win your division, then it all goes by score.
