Believe it or not, I've had people take pictures of my mother at competitions, tweet them to me, and say "look I found your family"

It makes me very uncomfortable.

Maybe they saw Willy Wonka that's why they knew it was your parents.
Jk...but seriously? Why would they do that?

Ok, so I purposely haven't posted on this thread simply because just hearing the word cheerlebrity bugs the heck out of me; it's ridiculous. Anyhow, I was thinking last night about how since September of last year I went from having a janky Roundoff BHS to now having a Roundoff BHS Layout. When I switched gyms I decided when tumbling I'd imagine being the best tumbler I could think of, so every time I tumbled I'd imagine I was on Stingray Orange and was Angel Rice (I still do when learning new skills). Just from imagining I was a different person I went from a crappy level 2 tumbler, to a level 4 tumbler in 6 months, teaching me I can do pretty much any tumbling skill I want if I have the right mental mind set. If I didn't know who Angel was (because of her 'cheerlebrity' status) I'd probably never be progressing the way I am now; so in a way I thank the cheerlebrity status just a little bit. That is all.

Picturing yourself having skills like Angel or Kiara or someone is harmless. Stalking them online or in person at competitions is a whole other issue.

What you did is harmless and in fact, relatively logical. You're imagining an idealized situation, which can help you gain confidence and trick your mind into overcoming some of the mental blocks (and the stronger the image, the stronger the trick. Using a real person is easier to imagine than a random person you create in your head). Think of it like a Patronus.

Versus taking Polyjuice Potion and breaking into her house and acting out her life :D

I just have to ask if the Cody in your user name is a reference to Mr. Simpson.

I think the reason the whole cheerlebrity is a frequent topic for us is because our sport really isn't like any other sport. Worlds to us, is like the Superbowl. People who play basketball are fans of Kobe Bryant, or football are a fan of Tim Tebow, or Baseball people are a fan of Albert Pujols, because they are celebrities in their minds. They look up to them as players and admire them. Same goes for us, but it's just different because we actually encounter them at competitions, or some of us even compete in the same divisions. People who play basketball don't play against Kobe Bryant, (unless theyre in the NBA of course) I don't see anything wrong with looking up to a so called "cheerlebrity" but there's a fine line between admiring and stalking. I'm just using this as an example but if my dad saw TJ Oshie (STL Blues Hockey) at the mall or something, he'd probably fan girl a little bit. Just because you're seeing this person you admire a lot being a normal person. On the other hand, if I saw Kiara Nowlin, I'd probably go up and ask for a picture with her at an appropriate time of course.. Like the girl above was saying, aspiring to be as good as someone at something, like being as good at tumbling as Angel Rice, is perfectly fine. There's always going to be someone thats better than you at something and there's nothing wrong with trying to better yourself by looking up to a certain person. Sorry for such a long post:)

well i'm pretty ''old'' too with 26 and i am still going to do this as long as my body lets me ;) That's exactly what i like about this sport (at least here in germany): You can do it as long as you want to and still be successfull although you're not 17 anymore!
Do you still tumble?

People take pictures of me all the time because I'm a dadlebrity. I have like 47 followers on instagram. I was even on the unpopular page last week.

25 here checking in. But I don't tumble, never did. People generally start to slow down with their tumbling the older they get, but I do know a 30 year old who threw a double full at worlds last year (he's a former gymnast and used to compete triples).

This is perfectly okay. When I'm in the gym tumbling, especially when shooting stars or ody is practicing, I like to picture myself as one of them or tumble on time to their music. Perfectly harmless and it did help my tumbling. It's definitely the stalking that is the issue and it truly bothers me
