So obviously a lot of teams had bad days yesterday, but where do we draw the line between a bad day and attempting skills that are too advanced for them? There's a lot of comments about teams being in divisions that maybe they shouldn't be, but no one is saying Louisville shouldn't be doing what they're attempting - that just gets chalked up to bad day. And they were probably at the top of the list of most deductions.

I honestly haven't watched and of the big programs yet. I watched some of the all girl teams, then a couple of the coed junior colleges and I had enough. Some of these teams look like they're having seizures standing there shablaming all over.

I agree with HeresAThought, you can tell when the technique is there and poop just happens because nothing is never, ever 100% perfect. I was talking more about looking at the bases not using legs, chests dropped, arms not in line with the body on the way up.

I really hope people hit tomorrow. Today was just awful. I haven't seen everyone but outside of Navarro no one looked really good. Yes there was talent and yes some hard skills... but gosh... I can't think of a single team I looked at that if you asked them if they were satisfied with how they performed they would say 'yes'.

Well... maybe UTSA. I see you San Antonio.

Since NCA began requiring unassisted stunts in order to score in the top range of the rubric, the overall cleanliness of the coed teams has been on the decline.

Back in the day it was two guys under most stunts (one guy holding and the other assisting on the side at least for part of the sequence) and while not as difficult as unassisted, the quality, execution, and technique of the skills being performed was SO much better. I would also argue that it is just as difficult to hit "easier" skills with perfect technique as it is to hit "harder" skills with poor technique, but that is a conversation for another day...

I'm all for rewarding truly unassissted stunts, but to REQUIRE them in order to score in the top rubric range is silly. It has affected the overall product and quality of the event.

What we are seeing this year is not an isolated event...It has been heading this direction for quite some time.

Is it also not a product of not separating out difficulty and execution? (last time I looked they didnt separate those two scores)

Also..I just wanted to add that my opinion is based off of being the second to last place finisher at NCA Nationals 2005 in the All Girl I division. We were in way over our heads. I was last pass and I *think* I threw a tuck. Actually, I busted that tuck on day 1. Opened my eyes and I was on my face on that blue mat. And I remember pulling up on our bus and seeing maybe OSU (who ever had a v/o that said number 1 get'er done) and asking "Uh Can we go home because.....and why didn't we do intermediate"

and everyone was like "Erin you're being so negative"

and I was like ... Sorry but Erin doesn't wade thru the valley of delusion. I know my place and its intermediate and we should get in it.

Lets do this Cal Baptist! So many great teams, but that's the only team I HAVE to watch. Ugh 14.99 for 1 team, though......

Fair enough, I just wanted to make sure that while we have no problem giving Maryland or Louisville the benefit of the doubt that we're not judging a D2 or D3 team who didn't hit yesterday and jumping to the conclusion that they don't belong there.

As an aside, I was underwhelmed by Maryland yesterday. I know they didn't hit but I think I was expecting more from them.

does anyone know how far off the feed is in the ocean center postings? i want to watch finals tomorrow (friday) and their in ocean center... i gotta say most intermediate all girl teams 1 were falling all over the place on bandstand today (thursday).. ugg. including my daughters team.. but luckily we advanced.. way to go ECU CLUB CHEER>. rock out your first year! WOOT WOOT!
Yeah I know! Let ECU know that saint joe's said congrats they did well ! Our division was a mess we unfortunately didn't advance which stinks because we were hitting our routine in the weeks before Daytona! Hopefully we get to see them again next year!

I'm not as big of a believer/advocate in seperating the two as most. (I believe its possible to score teams properly with them being together) However, do I see the benefit for coaches in knowing exactly where teams gained and lost points...Absolutely.

I think there is a larger issue at play here, but seperating the two might be a step in the right direction. But...if assisted stunts don't even qualify teams for the top range won't teams keep attempting unassisted stunts regardless of a seperate execution score?

Unless I'm reading this incorrectly, WVU Club cheer in Intermediate All Girl I had to go through the Challenge Cup to make finals and came all the way back to win today! I know Day 1 scores are thrown out except for the cheer, but that's still a heck of a come back!
