OT I Can't Believe These Girls!

Do any of you not wear a seatbelt in a car?

My rant- So after driving with almost everyone that can drive on my HS squad at one time or another this past year I've noticed that only one of them wears her seatbelt when they drive! I don't want to say anything and look like a priss but seriously! How do you just get your DL and then not wear it! Then worst of all, on our way to a our last comp of the year, a mom is driving for like 100 miles, no seatbelt, doesn't care if anyone else is or isn't wearing it too.

This bothers me so much. Again don't want to be a goodie goodie, but what should I say to these chicks lol? Just be smart?

In NY it's illegal to drive or even sit in the front seat without one, and there are random seatbelt checks at highway exits sometimes (easy way for cops to give out tickets). You should "accidentally" share some European tv ads on YouTube that show what can happen if you are in an accident and thrown around the car without one. They are very graphic and not for the the faint of heart!

That´s not really clever. It´s just a little thing and it can save your life.
I usually say to someone not using the seatbelt:
You don´t care much about your brain, do you? They will find it all over the street if you have an accident.
I say it in an ironic way, like do what you think it´s best. But it helped

I, and my two kids, and husband are survivors are all due to seatbelts. Wear your seatbelt every single time. You look smart, they look stupid. Another driver came into our lane just enough and hit the right front quarter panel of my Blazer at the time. That force turned our Blazer 45 degrees immediately into a wall on I95 and we exploded that wall, then my Blazer rolled back twice and landed on the roof. My 11 mos old, now 10 CP didn't have a scratch on her from her car seat, my 7 yr old had a little road rash on her right hand, no scar, seatbelt held. I was still in place but the car had crumpled around my right ankle, which I kept but I hear moms tell little kids on occasion that I was in a fire because that is what a skin graft looks like. I don't even say a word to my kid on putting on their seatbelts. And usually that makes everyone else do it, too. When I find out someone in the car doesn't have one on, which my kids will report, I say are you crazy? Wasn't our fault, we were driving along, our stuff was scattered all over three lanes of travel. WEAR YOUR SEATBELT PROUDLY!

Definitely speak up. A seatbelt saved my life as a teenager. I had a scar on my neck where the seatbelt caught me for a very long time. It's such a simple thing but makes a BIG difference in a crash.

When I drive I always say wear a seatbelt or I am not driving you.

Simply get out of the car. I have three teenagers and my youngest, now 14, just started sitting in the front seat because she is very little for her age. That being said, none of them will drive with someone without them wearing a seat belt. As many above already said, it is something so simple that will make the difference between life and death. You can not be afraid to speak up. And I doubt your friends will think less of you if you did. make it clear, that it is not their driving that you are concerned with, but that of the crazy person in the other car that is not paying attention. Your life should be too precious to you for you to put it in the hands of someone driving while texting or someone driving drunk, or high......and remember that accicents do happen. Please wear your seat belt whenever you are in a car and do not ride with someone that is not wearing theirs.

Senior year in highschool, my physics teacher was doing his lesson on gravity and force and he made us do a lab pertaining to car accidents. He made us calculate how many G's a human body experiences during an accident. He didn't tell us what exactly we were calculating until the end when we had all found the answers. We ended up with two numbers, one around 3 g's and one around 12 g's. He then explained to us what each meant. The 3 g's was the driver of the accident who wore his seat belt and the 12 g's was the backseat passenger who didn't and went right through the windshield. Since the normal human body can only really handle around 5 g's until they loose conciousness, it was a real eye opener to all of us, especially since that's usually the age kids are becoming more comfortable with driving and think they're too cool for a seatbelt.

Don't even get me started on distracted driving.

a friend of mine passed away in a car accident after not wearing her seatbelt. People get annoyed when i make them put it on but it's not like you know when a wreck is going to happen. Just make them do it, you're not being a "priss" and you could save their life.

When that noise hits, your husband says, What was that? Just seeing a wall coming and thinking, Thank God, we will stop there, but boom, as Eyes On The Prize just stated, those G forces have other things in mind and you flip up and start rolling other direction, energy has to be released, and the wall explodes and you are blind from dirt and gravel, glass breaking, screaming, helpless and praying please, God, save my babies, I can't help them at all, please, please, please. Wear your seat belt. Needless to say, CP still sits in the back seat, too, even just she and I in the car. Guess I was just lucky as a kid laying in the back window of that Lincoln Town Car that we never seriously got in a wreck.

And to add to this even if you are belted, anyone in the car who is not belted puts you at risk, as they will become a human projectile in an accident. My kids high school makes them (and a parent) go to a presentation before they are allowed a on campus parking pass. The presentation included a video demonstrating the "human projectile" in a car accident, wish the movie was available on line. My son (who is now 23) tells his friends to buckle up because they are not going to take him out in an accident.
