(Please forgive me for the comparison I'm about to make, but there's no other real historical comparison that could be drawn. Also, I have no connection with CEA so this is all based off of observation on my part.)

I view CEA as kind of like the communist bloc. Kernersville would be Moscow, Raleigh would be East Berlin, Charlotte could be Havana (to a degree), and the rest of the locations would be some of the smaller cities throughout the USSR. They're not incredibly powerful, but they don't HAVE to be--they've got Moscow, East Berlin, and Havana to handle all of the real issues that come up. The smaller locations provide "troops" to fill teams once they've reached the skill levels.

I feel as though the smaller CEA locations are basically infantry for the level 5 CEA teams--SE, Coed Elite, SSX, Smoex, Lady Elite, JC5, Junior Elite, Youth Elite, etc. etc. etc. (This is NOT to say the younger and lower-level athletes are not important. They are.) The Kernersville gym and Raleigh gym (from what I've seen in pics at least) aren't huge gyms like CA or Stingrays. There isn't enough time or gym space to provide a location for younger teams and all levels. The only youth team in Kville is YE, and the only mini team is Mini Elite. Raleigh has one tiny team and then only junior and senior teams. The other locations provide the "training ground" so to speak for the younger teams and other levels.*

CEA clearly tries to get their athletes to level 5 as quickly as possible, and it seems to be working pretty well. It doesn't matter if their satellite gyms are "in the black" and winning championship after championship--that's not really the point. The smaller locations are an opportunity enter CEA at a level and age-appropriate team that otherwise wouldn't be available at Kville or Raleigh, and eventually work oneself up to a team that practices in Kville or Raleigh, if that's what they want to do. (I think. Again, I could be completely wrong and I have no connection to CEA.)

The history teacher in me actually is quite impressed with this analogy. I also think (and our affiliation with CEA is all if a week old) that your assessment is spot on. Kville only has one floor

(I'm sitting here watching a tumbling class at the moment)...

and the only teams that train here are essentially the top of the program for each age bracket.

I've got one trying out here because he's ready for that and I've got one in CLT because (although she's got level 5 skills) doesn't need to be in kville yet.

Whereas most gyms have their total athlete progression in one building I'm seeing CEAs system of progression as being spread around the satellite gyms, closer to athletes homes with the final goal being Kville's teams.

Just my first impression as a newbie.

I am so confused about all of this CEA and CAC drama. I swear it gives me a headache.:banghead: Everyone keeps talking about in terms of business opportunities but I don't understand opening another location strictly from a business point of view. I know that their Kernersville, and Raleigh locations have had an enormous success on the world and national stage but to be honest I haven't heard much about the teams from their other locations in terms of both world and national success. (If they have I apologize but I honestly haven't) From what I understand about business, you should be making sure that the locations that you are opening are all succeeding at the same level or else you end up having one or two locations carrying the load of the entire group. Think about it in terms of a large company and that each location is a division of that company. If 3 or 4 divisions of that company are in the red (not doing as well as the others) and 1 or 2 divisions are in the black (really succeeding) well then that company is in the red. Thats how I see this expansion anyway as just burdening down the other divisions.. I think CSP should focus on bringing her other gyms all up to the same awesome level that the Kernersville and Raleigh locations are. I really do admire CSP for what she has done but I think she just needs to stop and really think about better ways to grow her business in my opinion

I can understand where you're coming from. And I think you've made a post without being overly critical/judgemental.

But, what if those locations can't support that kind of change in direction? The raise in tuition due to more hours in the gym, the $$ commitment of doing the kind of travel schedule that K'ville/Raleigh and now Charlotte commit to every season. The amount of work outside of the gym that the high level athletes at those gyms spend to stay in tip top shape so they can get through the routines they do? Not everybody wants that. Not every family can afford that kind of $$ and time commitment and they should still be able to participate in the capacity that works for their family. If you want to have fun, cheer with your buddies, travel a lot less and be the best team in Small Town, NC then you should have an option for that. If you want to go to "Worlds" then you should also have an option for that.

I also think it's unfair to compare Greenville, Sanford, Lake Norman and Salem by the Raleigh/Kernersville standards. It took MANY year's for our teams to get to the point they are performing today. That doesn't happen overnight...for anybody.

I used the search bar I swear! Its been all over Facebook that Midwest Cheer Elite is opening a gym in Florida, will it be run by the current owner or is this a franchise for them?
Also, on Instagram it looks like Bucky is finally opening a gym...the only hint was the initials CE, when asked what the gym name was he didn't answer. Is that the same gym he was leaving Fierce to go to?
I gotta brag...midwest is opening in FL and holy cow we had over 250 at try outs today. So flippin excited!

Now that depends entirely on the turnout for tryouts. (For Kernersville) Last year there was a Tiny 1, Mini 2, Mini 3 (ME), Youth Excel (level 3 I believe last year, but maybe level 2 the year before?) and Youth Elite. Then Junior Excel (same things apply as to the Youth Excel team except age), Junior Elite, then Coed Excel (maybe level 4?), then of course SE, Lady Elite, CE, and last year IOC-5 . This past season, per usual- builds what teams they'll have once they see what they have after tryouts. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about those K-vlle stats (not for this season, but for last season).

So that would make it even regarding the level 5 and worlds teams to the other "lower levels" right?

It is literally on the same street....bizarre

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Joe worked w/CEA at some point this past season?

You're correct. He coached at the CLT location but has his own gym at the same time. We used to tumble at his open gym at One United occasionally. At some point in the season they parted ways, he's focused on building his existing program and reports a very successful tryout season at OU on twitter.

Hey! I was there too! My little orange shrimp was not in your pic, bc she insisted on tumbling on the Worlds logo all afternoon (marking territory?).

Small world. LOL

Thanks I really try not to be judgmental and I have no reason to criticize CSP because she is frickin amazing!!! But its really true what you say and to be honest I haven't really thought about the possibility that Cheer extreme might have been using those other gyms as potential feeder gyms for lac of a better term. I also know that a lot of families do not have the resources to pay for everything that comes with a level 5 worlds team and even some girls and boys don't want that kind of pressure and just want to cheer for fun. But I still feel like maybe she is over extending herself and should focus on the teams she does have. But who knows?? I certainly don't and she has proven herself to be extremely creative, smart, an amazing coach and a brilliant business woman to boot!
