@CEAJoeA

CEA did not merge with Prodigy.

http://www.charlotteallstarcheerleading.com/index.php/18-news/102-showcase

My earlier post....

The Concord story is really not much of a secret here.

CAC merged with Prodigy in Concord about a month ago. This included the building, the staff including the owner, access to the kids etc.

Later a former business partner of Prodigy then teamed up with CEA to open CEA Concord. Tweets went out falsely claiming that Prodigy has now moved to CEA which was a quite funny since CAC/Prodigy had evals the very next night. These are kids though so I can excuse the behavior. Those kids were quickly told the truth of the situation and the tweets were erased.

Concord is a a city of about 80,000 and is right outside of Charlotte.
They have a rich history of cheerleading with several successful yet smaller sized gyms in addition to CEA Lake Norman which is approximately 15-20 minutes from Concord. The guesses as to why CEA announced a Concord gym right after CAC moved into the area usually change with the color shirt you wear to competitions.

Since then I have heard that the proposed deal from the ex-business partner isn't quite what was expected. I would not be surprised if that partnership is now off however I have no confirmation of that.

Kids in that area tend to be fiercely loyal and defensive of their programs. I feel bad for them because drama has been brought there that had nothing to do with them.

And for those that will immediately post that I have no right to say anything because my daughter doesn't cheer anymore - just save it! I have no issue saying that I support the gym my daughter USED to cheer at just as hundreds of other people here do as well.

@cea_atc.. You said close to 100 kids drive to Kernersviile so that's why CEA opened a gym in Concord. How many of those 100 kids are on worlds teams in Kernersville and have to drive there? And if they aren't on level 5 world teams, why couldn't they just drive 20 mins to the Charlotte CEA and be on a lower level team there.

BTW... I don't understand why some CEA ppl keep saying CEA is merging with Prodigy. Get your story straight. Charlotte Allstars merged with Prodigy. You are confusing a lot of ppl. Hummmm

I have heard nothing but good things about Juba and Mykel. I guess the concern is that Juba and Mykel will be spread too thin. The Fearless press release makes it sound like they are working there. I would have to imagine that starting a new gym is extremely time-consuming and it's just hard to consider a new program if the owners won't have their full focus there. And, it's been said before, but the information out there about Fearless is not good (both on Fierceboard and from friends who have been there and left). Just from what has been shown in earlier threads, I really don't want to join a program that is associated with them. This is a tough one...

I'm excited about Crown Athletics and have always heard great things about Juba. I wouldn't hesitate to take my girls there to tumble any day. Fearless, on the other hand, not even sure how they are still in business and not sure why Juba would ever want to even associate his name with that place. Some parents are funny, they do more research on what type of TV to buy, reading reviews and consumer reports, etc but they pay no attention to news and court cases about an owner of a place where their kids are potentially spending countless hours a week. SMH. Anyway, excited to see what crown puts on the mat!

I've heard the same exact complaints about all parties involved:jawdrop:

You're correct. He coached at the CLT location but has his own gym at the same time. We used to tumble at his open gym at One United occasionally. At some point in the season they parted ways, he's focused on building his existing program and reports a very successful tryout season at OU on twitter.

Thank you. I never thought he actually quit running his gym/program, but just helped out at the CEA Charlotte location as well.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. LOL CSP coaches every team in Kernersville, she is definitely not focusing on the Worlds athletes. Clearly you don't know her or you would never think that about her. Your way works for you.........OUR WAY WORKS FOR US.........why is this an issue for you in Las Vegas??

You know I support and agree with everything you said, BUT to the bolded part-

Unless things changed since the end of Jan, she hasn't coached any of my CP's teams in 3 years except two or three times (to teach the pyramid once or maybe twice and to check in one other time). I do personally feel like the lower levels at the K-Vlle location aren't progressing as much as the ones did in the years before we joined, per her philosophy/analogy she gave in her "ask thread". She didn't even coach ME this past year for the first time (to my knowledge since we left at the end of Jan). I realize she has tons of other new teams she's now coaching as well, but without privates most kids who started out at that location the year I did and even 1-2 years before haven't progressed past a solid level 3 (which would put them at the 5 year mark, 6 for some), even with privates.

I will say the couple of times she DID coach my CP's team, CP responded very well to her methods and instruction MUCH better for the few times she did (as did the entire team for the most part).

I think in the nearly 3 years we were there (double teaming last year), CP's teams have won maybe twice. Once I know for sure the first year and once (maybe twice) since we've left. That can be very frustrating as a new parent (or not so new going into a third season). Lord knows you know I love you death and I think that everything you've said was true at some point (and may still prove to be so), but there are a few teams at the K-Vegas location she does not coach anymore (unless things have drastically changed since January)..and I feel like if you look at the "roster" of those specific teams and their results over the past few years it's definitely reflective. And I know "winning" isn't everything and there have been moments in my CP's career when I was more proud of her and her TEAM as whole when they DIDN'T win than if they had bc of that one special moment when it all just came together at one comp. But there's def been a lot of frustration for some of the newer parents over the past few years bc we are paying for a competitive sport and did/do expect some type of return, especially by now per her philosophy about moving up levels, etc...

I know things used to be different when your little bit cheered starting there when she was a lot younger, but I feel like the structure at that gym has changed since then. I often feel like some of the other gyms like Sanford and especially Raleigh and Salem have much stronger lower level teams. This past year I found myself pondering, "do I really need to make or perhaps should I have made the drive to Raleigh or Salem to have CP on a stronger lower level team after 3 years?" Lol- now that sounds even crazier as I think about it!

*I have a feeling I know a poster who perhaps might have some strong words and/or difference of opinion, and if that's the case please really think about what I said before you reply.

I'm certainly not attacking CSP or CEA for the record (I'd congratulate her if she acquired 20 more gyms that she felt she could change for the better and/or help), just making note of how I think things may have changed in recent years regarding the K-Ville location and all of the gyms she has and is responsible for, not to mention her many continued efforts to try to change the cheer world for the better. Physically she can only be but so many places at once ya know? Plus I really really enjoyed the family aspect and all the fun things she does for the girls at her gym (even the ones she doesn't coach). So major props to her bc I just know I will always get chills every time I see certain teams perform.

Same ones I wrote, then. Coed Excel is what I called sr excel (level3/4), Youth Butterflies is Youth Elite (level 5).

Surprised I remembered those. We are so busy with my CP getting ready for try outs that I did not think I would remember. Say a prayer for a kid DYING to be on the butterflies team!

Best of luck to her..she is a mighty fierce base and good dancer (not to mention kind and smart :)
Tell her we wish her good luck!

I think @cea_atc was referring to the Charlotte not Concord location in his post (at least the one I saw a few pages back)
I also believe CEA Charlotte fielded a Worlds team this year and had at least one other level 5 team? Both Coed teams I believe- Steel was medium coed at worlds I think and there's a junior level 5 coed there as well I believe?

My statement was clearly about the CHARLOTTE gym, not the Concord gym.

As for other info posted here, don't believe everything you read.

on Crown Athletics, I heard from a reliable source that they will just be working with fearless. However they are their own separate entities. I can assure you Juba and Mykel are going to do great things with Crown Athletics!

Well, according to their own press release the owner of Crown and the owner of Fearless are now business partners. At least we finally have the answer. Ugh. No longer interested in Crown.

It is my understanding that the Fearless owner will only be involved at that location in Gaithersburg. It will just eventually be changed over to the Crown Athletics name.

Talked to one of the coaches last night as that's exactly what will be happening. The owner of Fearless will have nothing to do with either location of Crown. @mommywfour

But here's the problem -(this is from Crown's press release) -

"Rebecca Sherman and Yolanda Phelps will run the Bryans Road location, Jubael and MyKel will run the Jessup location, and Nick Sweeney, who holds ownership in CA All-stars and Jubael Ra-Akbar, recent co-owner of Fearless All-stars, will run the Gaithersburg location."

Clearly Nick Sweeney now owns part of Crown and Jubael now owns part of Fearless. It's hard to believe that Sweeney will have nothing to do with two of the Crown locations when he is an owner. And just changing the name of fearless does not change the very questionable history of that program and its owner. Don't understand why Crown did that.

Actually I got that information from my coaches. When I asked if our was going to the new concord location, they said we bought an old gym called Prodigy Allstars that came with a floor and everything.
No need to be rude. I actually never said they merged I was just giving the name of the gym that I was told we bought. ☕ Here's some tea. Take it and go calm down. Please.

I also asked about this last night and apparently there were 2 Prodigy owners. 1 merged with CAC and the other is in with CEA. There was also an official letter drafted forbidding (my word not her's) us from using the Prodigy name. Which struck me as very odd but whatever, we can't use the name. So to all those saying no we didn't........Joe is technically half right!

Thanks. Can't believe you deal with some of this stuff. I'll leave the rest to the grown ups. Love you!
