The top 3 large gyms in the area that you will see at most competitions will be CA, SOT, and Champion (in no particular order), so you have some great options as a level 2-3 athlete.
A big factor to remember is traffic! Mapquest may say they are the same distance miles wise, but be sure to visit the gyms during the afternoon hours when you hypothetically may have practice to see how feasible it truly is to get there during that time.It may take 30 min to get to CA from across the metroplex at 11pm, but during rush hour it can be 2 hours.......

Additionally, remember that SOT has 2 gym locations in the metroplex. You may be commuting to one vs. the other because they only offer certain teams at the lower levels typically, so factor that in. Be sure you can make the commitment to travel to both Coppell & Arlington if needed.

Also, please remember that their are awesome small gyms in the DFW area that may not be known for their level 5 teams but are extremely successful with the level 1-4 teams.

True ! We just wanted to try out a big name gym for the first time to see if we like it. :) but if you know of any small gyms by name in that you can comment them and we will be more than happy to look closer at all of our options

There are quite a few in the metroplex and of course I am biased towards the gym my CPs have been members of for 8 years ;). Do you know what city you will be moving to? That would help narrow down the choices since there are so many in our area.

Haha i keep hearing about the metroplex and I can't wait to move already! We are moving to either Allen or Arlington. (My mom wants to visit the high schools first before making a final decision, but she's leaning more towards Allen.)

If you have high schools in mind then Arlington is the past place you want to move to. Most our schools are Title 1 and if you want to compete in hs you have two choices Martin or Arlington High...Arlington will allow you to transfer in district but Martin will not. i don't know what Allen schools are like but they have to be better than ours!

As far as high schools, I would say that Allen high school is stronger in what is offered (classes, organizations, opportunities for college credit). It is the largest high school in Texas however, so you have to be mentally prepared for that atmosphere in order to not get lost in the crowd.

Arlington has several high schools in their district, but the one that is known for being the best performing usually is Martin High School. It is also a large school, but not as large as Allen usually. Not all areas of Arlington are that nice to live in from my opinion however (anything more to the east/southeast part typically has more crime. Once you get towards grand prairie/cedar hill, it 's more lower income....grand prairie is next to Oak Cliff, which is the scary part of Dallas) so do your research as to the better parts of Arlington.

There are also plenty of other surrounding areas in between the two to check out as well while you're driving around (Coppell/Anything around Lake Grapevine, Plano, Frisco, Rockwall) that offer good school districts with accessibility to Downtown Dallas.

Thank you for the advice! If we did decide to go to Arlington I would HAVE to go to Arlington High school because I'm in the IB program , which is why Allen is our other choice .

Woah! This helped ALOT ! My mom is looking at all of the links now and one of Plano's high schools has an IB program (I'm enrolled in IB currently so the school needs to have that so I can complete it) and she's also looking into that one ! Thank you !! :)

It looks like there are quite a few IB schools in the metroplex in addition to Arlington high and Allen:

TIBS - Texas IB Schools
Trinity High School Euless
L.D. Bell High School Hurst
Plano East Senior High School Plano
Rockwall High School Rockwall
Rockwall-Heath High School Rockwall
Denton High School Denton
Coppell High School Coppell

Something I should say as well is that if you are thinking of cheering for high school, it is taken quite seriously in Texas (friday night lights and all that...). You are already on the right track by competing in allstar, but be sure to be working on your tumbling/jumps/motions for tryouts in the spring and contact the coach prior to tryouts (especially if you won't be out to dfw yet).

Thank you ! And I would absolutely LOVE to cheer for high school but as you said,it's taken very seriously there and I'm solid on everything EXCEPT tumbling :( I just started in January and I can do a bhs but that's all the tumbling I have as of right now and I'm pretty sure to get on a team in Texas I would have to have AMAZING tumbling but I don't .however my jumps are all perfectly even (almost hyper extended),my motions are tight as a whip, I'm really good at stunting, I've been dancing since I was 3, and I've got personality like you wouldn't believe ! :) but then again tumbling is the biggest part ...That's why on tryout forms they always list tumbling requirements :( I'm trying not to be discouraged but it's very hard .

It really depends on the school, for tumbling requirements. Typically as long as you have a clean BHS and exceptional scores on all other aspects, most schools in the area will take you for at least 9th grade or even JV with a few exceptions depending on the year (Coppell, Rockwall, Allen always have strong incoming girls from CA/SOT/etc. Example: Coppell High School Cheer Show-off - YouTube). Just keep working this year and don't count yourself out! ;)

Also look in Richardson if you are considering Plano ~ I went to school there the schools are great and made the recent top 500 in the Nation (JJ Pearce - I moved right b4 HS) I went to school with Diana Anglin Miller and she opened Pro Spirit all stars in the Dallas area...she cheered all through junior high etc. Cheer IS huge there...

My cp goes to an IB school here in Florida, we loved it...I wish we could stay IB when we move but I could not find a good one in the Austin area :-(

My parents lived on the lake in Rockwall (Heath actually) and it was beautiful....

Denton high school has an exceptional IB program. It's a smaller 4A school with less than 2000 students and the cheer program isn't as competitive as the larger high schools. You would have a very good chance of making the squad. The city of Denton was rated among one of the best places to live in the US and is home to the University of North Texas and Texas Women's University.
