Really just try to join things as a freshman because you'll learn time management early and won't scramble when you are older. Joining things like clubs and sports will help boost your application for school. And don't just go out and party and stuff make sure you really make time for your work too because its really one of your last steps before the real world. Embrace every opportunity that comes to you

Thanks! Will do!

My campus is multiple buildings and it's easy to get lost so we have a map. Don't bring it out when in the halls or outside because people will judge you and you'll look kinda dumb. Look at it before you leave your class if you have one.
I had my map out and still got lost to one class... The class where I was the only freshman.
Join clubs/sports.
Do your homework. It's made or broken some kids in a few classes.

The Fiercest App of All... Fierce Board

Not sure if all schools had this problem or if it was just my old high school: if you have a boyfriend, do NOT stop in the middle of the hallway and have a make out session before class. Nobody wants to see that and you're in the way. I swear after 50 or so minutes you will see each other again so a quick hug or kiss will do.

If you're doing cheer you'll make a lot of new friends! But I really recommend doing sports your freshman year, because it's not really competitive and more fun at the lower level. You meet a lot of new people! Another thing is, if you have a really big school like me, you wanna come up one day during the summer after you get your schedule and walk through your classes to see where they are. I was a freshman last year, it's really not as bad it looks. Just make sure you do all your work/homework and pay attention in class and you should be fine :)

GET INVOLVED! And do things your interested regardless of popular opinions if you like it do it or you will always regret it, your only in high school once and after your done being a freshman it gets harder to want to become more involved in things.

Enjoy it for what it is :) I think too many people go into high school think that it'll be this big party, and I think that's part of why so many people grow to "hate" high school. If you go into high school with an open mind, you will have a blast!
-Make the most of every moment :) Especially during your sophomore and junior years, it can be very easy to "go through the motions." And a lot of the time, high school can be really freaking boring. I mean... it is SCHOOL. But again, enjoy those peaceful, boring moments, too.
-Don't be afraid to get involved.
-Know when it's time to put a lot of focus in certain areas, and know when it's okay to be more laid-back.
-KEEP YOUR GRADES UP. While your jr/sr year grades do matter a lot, colleges are looking at your entire transcript, including your freshman year. Don't slack off your freshman/soph years just because they tend to be easier.
-Always challenge yourself, but know your limits. Take a couple AP or honors classes if you love that subject, but don't overdose on advanced classes. Get involved in one or two clubs, but not every stinkin' club.
-High school is a HUGE self-discovery time. Embrace it. You may or may not have yourself completely "figured out", and that's A-okay.
-The only upperclassmen that might pick on you are the sophomores. But mostly because they are insecure and don't have anything better to look forward to. Juniors and seniors tend to ignore you, at least at first.
-While these next 4 years are going to be huge learning experiences with just as many heartbreaks and tears as there are beautiful moments, don't purposely be stupid, either. Don't party or do illegal things. Especially if you're on ASB, cheer/do other sports, or put yourself in any leadership position.
-Enjoy your middle school friends, but don't be afraid to go out on a limb and make new friends. I can almost guarantee you that you will not be hanging out with the exact same people at graduation as you did the beginning of your freshman year.
-Boyfriends are great and all, but don't get too hung up on scoring a significant other. Try to focus more on being friends with guys than trying to pursue relationships. High school is about finding your bridesmaids, not your groom.
-Show your school spirit! Make a point to go to at least all of the home football and/or basketball games. Be crazy at pep rallies! Even if no one else wants to be spirited; this (and I guess college) is the only time of your life where you can get away with being a spirited maniac for your team!

So many "don't"s, but I thought you'd like the perspective of someone who is about to start their senior year :) The first week may be stressful, but you will adjust fairly quickly :)

I'm going to be brutally honest here, because I wish someone told me this when I was an incoming freshman. First, you're not as cool as you think you are. It's not cool to skip or fail. People (mainly girls) will stab you in the back in the blink of an eye. Even your best friend. Hopefully that won't happen but there is a big possibility. You might get invited to parties that have drinking and smoking. You don't have to do either. You don't even have to go if you don't want to. Be respectful to all the upper class men and especially teachers. Don't mess up your grades either. If you plan on going to college, you've got to try your hardest no matter what. School comes first. It may be hard to accept but you need to put school before cheer and friends. Cheer doesn't last forever. You probably won't even remember who the people you call your friends now are in 20 years. But education lasts a life time. Also, don't worry about getting a boy friend. Boys in high school are immature and only have one thing in their mind. If you happen to find the right guy, then never let him go. High school is hard, but don't let it get to you. On those night where you're staying up til 12 am crying trying to finish all your homework, take a step back and calm down. It doesn't last forever. Try your hardest and work hard, but remember its okay to relax and have fun. Just find your balance and you're set. Good luck!

I think this was the MOST annoying thing about freshman year, it any year for that matter!

You might get invited to parties that have drinking and smoking. You don't have to do either. You don't even have to go if you don't want to.

I'll add that if you plan on trying out for high school cheer (and assuming you make the team), you could get in huge trouble with your coach and AD if you are at a party like that, even if you don't do any substances. Last season, about 6 of my teammates got suspended for being caught partying. Two of them ended up getting cut at the next year's tryout. Heck, if they know of you going to parties before trying out, it could cost you a spot on the team, even if you have the highest score out of all of the candidates. Literally EVER single year, there are girls that will try out, do very well skill-wise, but then those Facebook pics and other evidence of their attendence at parties surface....

And if you stick with all-star, I'm sure your gym probably wants you to represent their company well. Stay a good, law-abiding citizen :)

It took me three years to realize it, but honestly, what everyone else thinks of you isn't important. My freshman year, I wouldn't have talked to the "unpopular kids" or even tried out for cheer. (My tomboy phase was still going strong) But now that I'm going into my senior year, I've realized that trying out for cheer was one of the best decisions of my life. And those "weird kids" are some of the best friends I've ever had. Make yourself happy, not everyone else.

Don't stand in the middle of the hallway talking to your friends when people are trying to walk through. This driven me crazy as an upperclassmen when I was trying to get to class on time!
As a sly way to look at a school map is to put it in the front of your binder and carry it, that way you can secretively glance at it if you get lost. I did this in college, works great!
Always get to class on time, being late a lot can really add up if you're teetering between an A and B or a B and C.
Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for guidance/help/whatever. Teachers and counselors and everyone there want you to succeed!
While it is important to join clubs and do extracurriculars, only do what you can handle. You don't want to overwhelm yourself and be up till the wee hours of the morning every night because cheer practice went late, you had a club meeting, a volunteer position, and then two essays to write, a lab report due, and then a bunch of math homework. Don't feel bad because over-achiever Suzy is president of 3 clubs, captain of the volleyball team, is in 6 AP classes, and is becoming fluent in her third language. She's not having any fun nor sleeping. Unless you are dead set on going to Harvard, don't kill yourself with an overload of responsibilities.
But still, time management is EVERYTHING.
While it may suck to do an essay within the first few days of it being assigned, you'll feel so much better when you don't have to write at 11pm the night before its due. Plus it's awful to have that lingering feeling when you know you need to write it and you're sitting around doing nothing except avoiding your homework. Just get it done. You'll feel better.
Don't party. It's not worth it if you get caught. They are never how they look in movies.
Be nice to teachers. You don't need to suck up, but just have them like you. In the case you don't finish an assignment (with a good reason,) they're much more likely to cut you some slack if you're a good student and quiet than a loudmouth who is always getting yelled at.
But don't use the excuse "well I was up super late trying to finish it..." Because unless it was assigned the day before, you have no excuse. Like I said, time management.
Don't take AP Physics :p (well I mean, you can if you really want to, but I highly recommend taking regular physics before. I didn't and it was the worst mistake of my high school career. Kinda relates to don't bite off more than you can chew)
