Wow, I am a bit flabbergasted at this response. Small businesses are what thrives and grows our economy. If a small community doesn't have the basic services such as Mom & Pop IGA or Joe Schmoes Plumbing supply, those communities die and people would be forced to move to the mega-cities...which will happen in the all-star industry (mega-gyms) if things don't change.

I was taken aback myself. My choice to start a program in my community, that I love, where I was raised and want to stay so I can give the opportunities that weren't available to me to new generations, was just a dumb decision I suppose.

Alright, I don't know if this has been documented yet, so if it has, I apologize

Out of the 6 Senior (Non-International) Divisions at worlds this year there were a total of 18 teams that medaled. Out of those 18 teams, 18 of them.......let me put this another way EVERY SINGLE ONE of them we're a multi-location/ "large" gym. There is clearly a problem here that needs to be addressed. I absolutely love this idea, and I really like giving small gyms the option of competing up if they chose to. Where and how should it be split? By size? So the top 35% of gyms by enrollment have to compete in the DI division, and the lower 65% have the option of competing DI or DII.

p.s. Also, I just noticed, each of these 18 gyms had multiple teams at worlds this year as well.

p.p.s. in 2012, 14 of the 18 teams were multi-location / "large" gyms

I agree with you except for the end, past the ...

When you opened your gym in your community did you expect to ever be a mega gym?

You could also stack the deck against yourself by opening in a large market saturated with gyms.

I agree. In reference to becoming a mega gym I'd say your chances are better in a large saturated market than they are in a small unsaturated market.

Your chances of failure are probably also higher in a large saturated market, but the comment I replied to seemed focused on becoming a mega gym.

Gym owner choose where to open their gym and if as a gym owner I choose a small market I've stacked the deck against myself.

I don't think this was meant to be defensive. Andre is just saying if your business goal to be another Cheer Athletics then do market research before opening your doors.

Believe me Dre it would have been much easier to go coach at a big name gym then to start my own gym from scratch in a smaller market. But my family is here, and I have a flexible job that supports my future. I enjoy my quality of life and my community. The food is much better down here than Dallas, Atlanta, Or New Jersey.

I'm just trying to make the argument that gym owners can be smart, innovative, and have great business sense and still have small gyms.

I say leave it alone. All-Star cheerleading is growing. Just because every team isn't winning Worlds doesn't mean there is a problem. I agree venue needs to be addressed but why do we need more divisions? All events are growing, all-stars is growing. I feel since the development of prelims, semi then finals the prestige of reaching a goal is back! I'm sorry I just don't believe every team deserves to win. Worlds should be the best team wins, regardless of size.

If divisions want to be implemented at other events I'm all for it. If those divisions want to have their "championship" held separately Im in full support. The World Championship should be that, the BEST team in the World.

No....No...No...and again NO! Large gyms are large for a reason. If they are large that mean they are good, if they're good they will win worlds. In gymnastic there are 4 big countrys that win every olympics (China, USA, Romania, Russia) At last 3 Olympics in gymnastic every all around final and apparatus final those 4 countires have won medals. Should we have two divisions at Olympics for other countries who can not won medals because of the big 4? Defenetly not!

The same story is for Worlds.

I don't think that's a fair comparison... In gymnastics, it depends on your individual talent. You could be the best in the world, and you don't have to rely on your team. They can stink-it doesn't matter to your individual outcome. The same is not true in cheer. You can be the best in the world, but you need at least 19 others also at your level to get you to the top.

Top three things when choosing where to start a business: location, location, location.

Certain areas will limit the potential you can grow and get to (and best team you could ever field) as well as present many barriers to entry (opening a gym in the already over flooded Dallas market).

If I opened an ice cream shop in Antarctica and it never got big is it because all the other ice cream shops cheated or I didn't choose the smartest location?

I disagree about the food though.

I think why people are opposed to the idea of D1/D2 so much is, because there are already tons of competitions ("national" championships) where everyone wins as long as they choose the right division. Worlds is almost the only competition left where true champions are determined. And I guess people want to have it stay that way.

Had you gone to New Orleans with us you'd probably agree. Maybe next year.

And my Android push notifications just started working. Awesome. Yeah for next version of Fierce Board App!
