Adding to my last confession:
When people assume that a girl is a good cheerleader JUST because she's pretty. Or assume at tryouts that a girl is gonna make the team because she's already hot and popular at school. No. This is gonna come off as egotistical, but I've had several people tell me that I'm a good cheerleader just because I'm gorgeous. And while I know those people meant it to be a complement, it actually offended me. Good looks don't make a girl a good cheerleader any more than having a nice butt makes someone a good volleyball player or having an amazing body and face makes you the next Tom Daley in swim (swoon)!

When girls do all-star and high school and are fully committed to allstar and don't take high school seriously... If you're going to do both, be committed to both and always give 110% at both, or only do one. It's so frustrating to have half of your team not try or care because they're too focused on all star.

Okay here's my list as a former cheerleader
-don't sit in the stands, stare at me while I'm asking you to yell and you look at me with a dumbfounded look on your face. It's not hard to follow directions and at least I'm asking you to yell appropriate words unlike the ones you were just yelling.
-Football, always my favorite thing to cheer for. Nothing like yelling hit em again hit em again and not getting in trouble for it. :)
-don't act like you want to cheer then walk away from the coach and say this is stupid or anything along those lines.
-cheerleading is not social hour, it's cheerleading. WORK hard, play later

Now here is my list as a coach:
-don't take the lack of crowd involvement your opportunity to be lazy and quit cheering hard. It's your job to be happy, peppy, and spirited, you can't control your fans.
-if you don't want to practice hard then save me the trouble and don't try out next year. None of the other cheerleaders like you because you are a slacker.
-do not lean against the gym wall, talk to the person next to you, talk to fans in the stands, or pop one knee out with your hands folded across your chest when you are supposed to be cheering at a basketball game.
-when I say run, I mean until I tell you to stop, don't ask for how long cause I'll only make you run more.
-bases, if you think it's funny to drop your flyer then do me a favor and don't try out. Just once I would like to base you and let you drop to see how it feels.
-flyers, if you think it's funny to hurt one of your bases because you are not tight on a stunt or because you are not paying attention then don't try out. They have a hard job and your life is in their hands, can't blame them for wanting to drop you when you are too lazy to do your job causing them pain.
-fellow coaches, just because you are not a competition squad does not mean that you allow your squad to not follow safety rules. Rules are for everyone not just those of us that compete.
-fellow coaches, i don't care if you have a cheerleader out sick, you never go out on the floor yourself and base or spot a stunt. Seriously, if you miss cheer that much then find a parent squad to join.
-fellow cheerleaders, friendliness goes along way. Don't be hateful to other team cheerleaders, be supportive and kind. You never know when friendship with another squad will benefit you.
-cheer parents, I AM THE COACH. I AM TRAINED TO DO MY JOB. I do not need your input from the sideline of why your little suzie should be in front, get to fly, or why or why not we should be doing competitions/cheers/etc. I follow the rules and your daughters safety is always my number one concern, this is why I have had a cracked collar bone, broken nose, and more bruises than I can count instead of it being your daughter's leg, arm, face, etc.
-cheer parents, don't inable your slacker child and tell me not to push your daughter hard at practices or games. If they can't handle it then don't let them try out.
-cheerleaders/parents, birthday parties, concerts, and social functions are not reason for not coming to practice. Get your priorities straight.

I could come up with so many more, but I'll save them for later.

YOU ARE MY IDOL!!! I just want to post this straight to my fb page!

I am a cheer mom and I am so excited for football season! I can't wait to watch both my girls cheer at their football games (oldest is on Varsity and youngest is in 8th grade). I was asked by my youngest CP's coach to be the team mom since she is one of the 2 captains....not too excited about that though. I have never wanted to be or come off as being "one of those cheer moms". 23 days and counting for the first game/scrimmage!

This was basically one of my last confessions, but a lot more well-said :) Thanks!

I hate when coaches put people in the air because they're the favorite and are tiny, even though they have terrible technique and no flexibility. And then she has to put the strongest bases under the smallest flyer because the flyer has bad technique. And the bigger flyers who have good technique get stuck with itty bitty, new bases. Not a good plan!

There is a FRESHMAN on our team and its her first year doing all star AND (obviously) her first year doing high school and she is not committed to HS cheer in the least. She hasn't shown up for the "very highly encouraged" conditioning or captains practices yet.

I feel like at least 40% of these confessions are hating on all-star cheerleaders, haha.
If any of my posts came across that way it was never intentional. My two girls have participated in both for years. All-star programs have increased the overall skill level of school cheerleaders.... At least in our area. Most of the school cheerleaders in our area, do or have done, all-star cheer. I love both! If I didn't I wouldn't have spent thousands of dollars :)

No no it wasn't you! It was kind of a joke, haha. I'm not an all-star cheerleader and tbh, I can't say I'm a fan of it altogether due to what I've seen from girls I know who have been involved in it for a long time and the attitudes I see on this forum. But I do respect the sport and the people involved :)

-Do not give the coach attitude, you tried out for this team you knew what you were getting into
-Do not give the captains attitude, we voted on who we thought would best lead our team
-Just because a girl is a senior I feel like that should not just be a reason for them to be placed on a varsity squad
-If you are on JV, do not trash talk the girls on varsity and say they shouldnt have made the team obviously they made varsity for a reason
-I feel like the varsity squad should be made up of the best of the best it shouldnt matter if your a freshman or upper classman or not
-I hate drama, dont talk about other people on your team
These are just some of mine

-I hate drama, dont talk about other people on your team
Excuse me while I go make this my life motto ;)
Seriously though. Not just in cheer, but in life. Remember those times when talking crap behind someone's back solved the issue? Neither do I.
