I run a high school cheer program of roughly 60 athletes and I want to discontinue use of Varsity cheer products if possible. I do not like where they stand in the cheer industry and would prefer to use someone else's products. I feel this is completely achievable but before I do this and upset my Varsity rep I want to get the boards opinion. Is it just foolish of me to think I can completely avoid using Varsity products and still be able to get similar quality at a similar price? Thoughts? Comments?

I think it depends on what products you use. What all are they?

Should be easy enough to avoid Varsity shoes if you use them.

Uniforms might not be that hard, but the other companies don't cater to schools as much as Varsity does.

Camps/Competitions will be the real hard one. You'd have to avoid both NCA and UCA summer camp, which is doable depending on where in the country you are. Leagues/regionals/states (or however your state does it) isn't Varsity, so you're fine there, but if you want to go to a National competition, a lot of the big ones are Varsity run.

I don't know what else you would use that's Varsity.

i know when i was in high school, it was camp, uniforms, practicewear, shoes (which were nike at the time but purchased through varsity), poms, megaphones, bows, warm ups... literally everything. even socks. but unless there's some type of contract in place, you could easily find all of those products from another supplier. the tricky part, like @Ashley said would be camps and competitions depending on your region of the country.

i think my school had a contract, so there was no using outside people for most things.

Currently the only thing we really use that's Varsity is Uniforms, Poms, Megaphones. We don't use Varsity at all for our camps so we are able to avoid it there. Shoes we currently are using NFinitys.

GK caters to HS's quite well. Illinois is majority GK this year. We have more HS uniforms than ever this year and even made a "school fit" section to help cater to schools since length is often an issue.

@stuntaholic - If you would like for me to get you in touch with your GK Rep in your area, message me. We dont carry poms or megaphones but we can definitely help with uniforms, warmups, etc as well as Nfinity shoes.

Our state is varsity ran by UCA... not sure how many other states are.

I can relate with you @stuntaholic. The biggest "advantage" to varsity is that its easier on the coach to get it all in one place. As a coach thats used multiple companies over the years, I've gone back to varsity on somethings just because its easier and cheaper to ship it all at once. If I could find a company that could do it, I would switch! GTM is ok quality, but doesn't offer anything in our colors and you can't customize it. GK has the quality, but the school designs are a little lacking, and they don't offer everything. That's pretty much it as far as I know. What I hate is that 90% of the money we spend each year (and its A LOT!) is paid to Varsity in some way - camp, uniforms/bodysuits, warm-ups, poms, shoes, regionals, state, nationals. The only things I can think of that we don't pay to varsity is campwear, make-up, choreography and music.
