All-Star Things That Are Dying Out In Allstar Cheer

I think half year worlds teams like Weather Girls have died out. Which is too bad for the kids who want to do HS Football season...

was that ever a thing? i thought just MT did it with some of their R5/J5 kids. did other gyms do this, too?
Not for level 5- although Maryland was probably a special case to begin with. It honestly depends on your state and the limitations of allstar cheer. Basics Superstars used to do it, but lets be real- the recent increase in demands for Worlds teams made those sorts of situations unrealistic if you want to be 'successful' (although that depends on your definition of success). Every once in a while you might still see it from another gym, with a mix of kids from other teams, but it's doubtful to be a regular occurrence. You also have to consider when bids are handed out as well. If you're an area with a lot of early-season worlds bids (like Texas seems to be), waiting until half-season for a worlds team doesn't seem like a good idea.

It's still a somewhat popular concept in Illinois because of the HS rules that prevent kids from competing with their HS and an Allstar team at the same time. There's always a few gyms that do the half season worlds teams every year. It's usually a mix of HS kids and kids that were already on level 4 or 5r teams at that gym.

I think Backspots are slowly dying out. I predict that each year the quantity stunt section will get more and more difficult, like starting with like fake full ups and high to highs until eventually the group that would have in the olden days had a frontspot, you know, "that group", will one day be the group who has the backspot, with the rest of the groups being double based..

I foresee the same thing happening in large coed with partner stunts!

Soffee shorts are dying out. Actually, Cotton cheer clothes in general. Everybody wears all spandex now. I only wear my old soffees to bed now.
I think that's in part to the "new" soffees. they are at least an inch shorter than the original soffees. I still wear my old ones almost every day but I couldn't even buy the new ones because they are so stinkin small!

The only reason the creativity is "gone" is because the score sheets become more and more demanding, meaning you have to have these certain skills in the routine in order to win. Throughout the years, choreographers have so little of time to make a routine creative like it used to be in 2007-2009 due to all the high level skills needed to even place in the top 10 or top 5. If you don't have those skills in a routine then you will have a hard time competing against teams that show all the criteria the competition asks for. Judges want all these things happen in 2:30 and if you really think about it, that's not much time at all.

I've never heard anyone else call it a quantity stunt section besides myself before, haha
