My problem with these "invitation-only" exclusive competition-amongst-competitions, particularly the Champions League, is not so much that they are hurting the unity created by Worlds as much as they are sort of perpetuating the same aura of shadiness that made certain industry leaders want to create other options besides USASF Worlds in the first place. Had the "league" been more transparent with the details of who was responsible for forming it, then it would make more sense why certain teams that aren't exactly the best of the best in their respective divisions were invited. It also makes me wonder if certain teams will ever be invited due the "in-crowd only" vibe that this particular event gives off. Of course, the coaches of the teams that actually were invited probably feel that there is nothing at all shady about it, but image is what people on the outside think. I'm pretty sure there are more than a few outsiders who still don't get it.

I'm all for having other Olympic-like options, but every team should have the equal opportunity to qualify for any and all of these events based SOLELY on specific guidelines dealing with pure skill in the current season rather than an expired track record of winning or a history being a fan favorite. As of now, I don't see these types of events advancing our industry as much as I see them ONLY benefiting the big name programs who are already at top of the ladder.

At this point, Champions League isn't pretending to be something that it is not. No one there is saying it is a World Championship. No one there is pretending that it is an open event. No one is claiming that the organizers are neutral representatives of the entire industry. It is simply a group of gym owners getting together to hold an event for themselves and run it the way they want. CL is also a way for them to avoid having all of their eggs in one basket and keep from being too reliant on a single Memphis office building.

As far as I know, all of the gyms involved still intend to go to the USASF competition this season (if qualified) and probably multiple Varsity events.
 
First to market/first to mArket and do it right/the best is quite hard to overcome. Where as the iPhone was not the first smart phone out there we live in a world where all new phones are "iPhone killers". A lot of new phones blow them out of the water from a technical standpoint, but I ask how many of you out there just upgraded to ios7? This is one of the reasons worlds is not going away.

Now as for cl and revolution and the hunger games of cheer, youre giving people a lot of credit for a comp that hasn't even happened yet. It took worlds a few tries to get it really going and they weren't giving away a ton of money. My concern for these new comps is the sustainability of a business model that gives away money before it has made any.

As for Nfinity not being a sponsor anymore, did your experience change when it no longer was the milk house?
 
I'm sorry, but as a mom to a eat, sleep and be cheer 11-yr-old Y3 CP, moving through the levels year by year, Worlds is her ultimate goal so far. She watches these Worlds videos over and over. She definitely does not want Worlds to disappear. We do go to Dallas, too, and she absolutely loves it. She is excited to attend this year as Y3, but she believes attending Worlds is something she will do one day and I hope so, too.

I am sorry to hear that Nfinity is pulling out of sponsorship, but with Varsity making their own shoe, (??) we still have Varsity uniforms and Nfinity shoes and we walked to the Nfinity store in Dallas last year and plan on making the walk again this year, too. Good luck to Nfinity, CP loves the shoes and the backpack. Worlds, please stay.

It didn't pull out...........their contract wasn't renewed because Varsity want's you to buy their shoe. Which isn't comparable to Nfinity in my opinion. Just like Varsity doesn't want gym owner's to have "choices", which is why they buy up all the good competitions.......they don't want their customers to have a choice either.
 
You're right, and I completely agree that innovation is good thing if it's based on talent, equal opportunity, and INTEGRITY. Popularity contests and fake friendships were "cool" in the 7th grade.

Would you be willing to give it a few year's to see how they roll teams in and out before deciding that it's not based on talent, equal opportunity or integrity? I mean it hasn't even happened yet....
 
I don't think the world (or Worlds... hah) is ending. It is a partnership that I always wondered how exactly it operated.

As far as the success of CL, AG, and Rev I think they are onto the right idea, but haven't cracked that nut yet. I still think there are finer points that prevent them from being successful. Different size divisions competing against each other on unproven scoresheets. Not finding a solid way to fund the competition. Not a non-partisan ruling body to decide who wins and who doesnt. My biggest concern for these events right now is they are basically showcases who arbitrarily choose winners. It will hold short interest, but I am concerned for long term interest. People like the drama of teams competing against each other.

Just like the webinar debacle yesterday, the way something is presented plays a huge role in how it is perceived. The method chosen to market CL very much contributed to this viewpoint. Many of us share it.

So I guess the lesson is, the way you market your product is as important as the product itself.

So I guess the lesson is, the way you market your product is as important as the product itself.

Edited to say despite how it was presented I think the idea behind CL, Revolution and the one in Vegas is a good one and something that this industry needs a lot more of. Choices. I'm willing to support their efforts if for no other reason then to give my $$$ to someone other than Varsity/USASF for a change. :cool:
 
I feel as if the industry is starting to do TOO MUCH!!!! Lets just rewind back to 2008 and before, there were not as many problems as there are now in the industry. The addition of new rules and new competition style (IMO), is diluting our sport; people are not doing it for the fun of it anymore and emphasis on fame and big name teams is becoming unbearable... Basically, I just don't understand why everything has become so complicated. I understand evolution and evolving as an industry, but can't we just go back to what our sport use to be? I personally do not see many good things for the industry in the future if things keep going the way they are...

But isn't the Champions League basically a popularity contest?:confused:

We won't know until April after it's over.......Bottom 5 finishing teams will be wildcard statused and have to "play in" to the event the next year. Opening those spots to other teams/programs.

My imagination isn't strong enough to compute a USASF = Apple analogy. (In fairness, I have a big blind spot when it comes to Apple.)
