All-Star Splitting Divisions

How is it determined how divisions are split @CHEERSPORT Nationals?
I know once a certain number of teams is reached in a given division (18?) it is split into division I,II, etc but how is it determined what teams get grouped together? Is number of athletes, record or are the names just drawn out of a hat?

Good question....I heard one mom suggest it was a further breakdown of size but honestly I am not so sure I agree looking the team breakdowns.

Last year we were told it was random, but in the divisions I looked at (our gym's), they seemed to group teams by reputation/record/competitiveness. I haven't really looked this year since CP's team's division isn't split.

Our division (Small Coed 5) has 50 teams competing (yikes), and I did not see rhyme or reason to the split of three divisions. I heard a few years ago, it depended on when you got your registration in, but that could be wrong.

In years past, they've marked split divisions with a "CRD" notation. (Computerized random draw.)

I saw somewhere on their site that divisions can be split by the size of the team or by date of registration. I think in our case it has to be the registration date because we have an equal number of girls to teams in the other division.

For small senior 5, I noticed that all the teams with exactly 20 girls were in division II. Division I was made up of the teams with less than 20 girls.

I know in the past, they've broken down by team size and by random draw. I assume some variation of that was done this year too. I don't even look at the teams in our divisions most times. There's always too many and the vast majority of teams I've never even heard of to begin with. I don't get to see their performances until the weekend is over anyway.

In the instance of a division split, we use various unbiased, nonsubjective methods (team sizes, day of registration, etc...) to divide the teams fairly into equally sized new divisions.

The "etc..." leaves their options pretty open IMO.

I guess I should have read that.
I was just wondering if there was a rhyme or reason to it. I guess a random system like a blind draw would keep speculation and complaints of favoritism down and would make the most sense.

I agree! I think it's quite unfair that a team in one split would get 1st place, but in the split division, they would have been in 7th place! I think in these instances, there should be a day one qualifier, and only the top 18 teams should compete the next day. That way a team in second place in one division, with a score much higher than the winning team in the split division would not feel slighted!

But by offering the split you are allowing a team more opportunity to place better. What sounds better, we didn't make day 2 or we finished 2 out of 12 teams? If left all as one group it is conceivable that 2nd place in group A was a 8th place or lower in a combined setting.

I don't have problems with splitting divisions but I think the approach should be declared - especially where only 1st places can be considered for bids at the comp.

We outscores a team in division 1 they got a world bid. We were in division 2 and didn't get one. I don't see how a random split and giving bids for the certain division split is fair when you can be in the same worlds division and outscores them and the lower score gets a bid because of a random draw...

Cheersport has always split divisions. They have done things the same way for as long as I can remember. I personally don't think any division should be split ever, but there are other people that say it isn't fair to go against 45 teams. You cant please everyone. Regardless of how anyone feels about it, it seems silly to complain about it after the fact since you (via your gym owner) chose to attend the competition knowing full well how the splits work...and just makes your gym look bad.
