where can i find the rules..... for rec cheer
im sorry i know nothing about rec someone plz enlighten me haha theres a want for it but im all allstar

There is no "standard" set of rules for rec cheer. Each organization determines what they want to use. Here in Illinois, we have an organization called Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association (IRCA), and their rules are mostly based on the high school rules, with a few additional restrictions. I think Illinois is a little ahead of the game, because I don't think many states have a state rec organization.

Cheer organizations that are associated with Pop Warner football have a different set of rules.

So to answer your question, you'd have to know what organization they are affiliated with. And even then, you might not find published rules - IRCA requires you to purchase the rule book and I think Pop Warner does too (or at least requires you to be a member).

do they follow the same levels as allstar usasf
Some organizations do, some don't. Like Jan W said, it usually is with the highschool rules for the state with the few adjustments, and it also varies within the recreational organization. Try talking to the recreational director/president of the organization for more information.

If you're competing with an EP that is also hosting allstar levels during the same competition, rec will most often follow USASF rules. Age divisions for rec are often different than allstar (ie. there's a Peewee division thrown in there somewhere, and Youth goes through age 12, etc). Check your local organizing body for rules at games/practices and check with the EP if you're competing.

I know for our season we went off the rules for the competitions we were going to. Other then our league having a no sideline stunting rule everything else was fair game. I would ask your cheer director or whoever is in charge of the league.

So, I realize this is an old thread but Im still a little confused does Rec Cheer at Allstar gyms?? Or is it like when young boys play football and the girls cheer?? We call that pop warner?

Rec is generally considered as a team that has open admission and no try outs. Some rec teams cheer for football, others only compete.

The rec team in our old town shouldn't even be called rec. They are a competition only squad with an Allstar coach (paid) and paid Allstar choreographer. They are also not an everybody plays rec environment. You have to tryout and they keep who they want and cut the rest. They just basically call themselves rec so they don't have to compete Allstar. In other words no rules to abide by that I've seen.

Yup. This is happening here too. So now actual rec teams that wanted a competitive division are now handicapped again. They couldn't compete in all star before but now they can't even compete in rec.

Yep. The rec team here wins everything and I'm like well congrats and it's great for the kids but as for the coaches and those who know the real rec teams you are messing with that's just awful in my opinion. But not my call so lol.

My sentiments exactly. Can't do anything about it but my heart goes out to those true rec teams.

We're a true rec team. We have "tryouts" but they are basically a skill assessment to see where we need to be level-wise. Everyone makes the team. We have to fight for practice space. Right now, one practice a week is in a tiny dance room, lol. We cheer for football. To combat the problem of all star teams competing in our division, we attend comps that require rec teams to cheer for sports. It is hard to police but we have actually successfully challenged a team in the rec division before (it was a middle school team that cheered for their school, should have been in the school division - the whole team and the coach were in photos on the school website in their uniform s, haha)

What EP did you challenge with? Was it a certain brand? (if you don't want to name the specific EP).

The "rec" teams around here are out of hand now. There are 8-10 all star teams competing as rec. I've contacted a few higher ups at certain EP's about it. Mainly at UCA since three of them won UCA nationals in the rec division.

I have no rec teams myself but these programs are blatantly cheating and it needs to stop.

Oh and this is awesome: One coach of one team was asked what made them a rec team. Her reply? "They do a cheer in their routine."

It makes me angry when we have coaches that are training these kids properly, following the rules to a T and then someone else comes along and screws it up for you by cheating.

Keep up the good work Sarah, your efforts are not unnoticed.

Thanks :)

The challenge was at US Finals several years ago. We never got official confirmation that our challenge was accepted but the team was announced in last place (and their routine should have placed them higher.)

And as for the "we do a cheer in our routine so that makes us rec" comment.... Other than local competitions put on by the local rec organization and I believe CheerLtd (and maybe some other IEPs that I don't know about) there is absolutely zero point in doing a cheer - you get literally zero points for it on the JamBrands and Varsity scoresheet . I actually had my music producer make two cuts of our music - one with just back beats for three 8-counts so we could do a cheer at our first local rec comp and then one with straight music - I'm not making the kids yell and waste energy doing something that gives them no points, even though we are a true rec team. My point - that was a really stupid comment by that coach lol.

If we ever went up against a team from an all star gym, I wouldn't hesitate to pull up their website and show it to the EP (most JamBrands EPs have a definition of rec on their website somewhere). I wouldn't mention it to the kids though - honestly, I think we can hold our own against all star teams. I mean, we follow the same rules and have the same score sheet... On any given Sunday, we might just win :)
