when will the divisions for each team be officially announced?
(assuming you mean Plano) I believe after all of the athletes have been called, but I'm not certain. I have been focused on Charlotte the last couple of days and I'm a little out of the loop on Plano stuff.

A thread on the parent side got me thinking: I know that using crossovers is somewhat frowned upon in your organization, and possibly in Texas, but the cheer culture in NC is very accepting of it,most gyms in the region are pretty crossover heavy, and a lot of athletes and their families somewhat expect to do two teams. I was just wondering if you will be allowing crossovers in the Charlotte location, or if you will be carrying the same policy in this gym that you do the others.

I doubt that we will use crossovers as extensively as some gyms in the NC area. However, we will try to have an open mind about that and other things that are done a bit differently than what we are used to.

My question to go along with yours is will all those teams be coming to NCA as well?

My initial assumption would be that the majority of the teams would go to NCA. However, that decision would probably only be made after discussing it with the athletes & parents on the new teams to get their feedback.

If someone with significant cheer experience both as a competitor and a coach was interested in long term employment with Cheer Athletics what would you as an organization consider a valuable college degree? Finance? Management? Kinesiology? IT?

It would depend on what job you were interested in. We have opportunities in coaching, graphic design, marketing, accounting, management, sales, human resources, and customer service. Truthfully, however, personality and work experience are generally more valuable to us than education type or level.

Random thought from the last question, would you ever consider hiring a physical therapist to work with athletes at the gym (maybe in like 2 years when I graduate), or maybe someone with a degree in sport psychology? :p I've always kind of wanted to somehow incorporate cheer in to my career and I'm curious to know if some of the bigger gyms would be interested in something like this in the future.

haha literally came into this thread to ask the same about a chiropractor before even seeing your post :p i would love it. and you would have a practitioner who actually understood the sport, rather than someone guessing and not understanding the full extent of what our athletes' bodies go through.

seriously... any gyms want an in house chiropractor hit me upppp :D well ya know, after i pass boards and graduate. minor details.;)

At our gym we have a "resident" physiotherapist I guess you could say, but she actually has offices at another gym as well. She started her own company (it's called CheerMed if anyone felt like looking it up) and kinda deals exclusively in cheerleading alongside a massage therapist. Both have had long successful careers in cheerleading and their career paths ended up allowing them to continue that dedication to cheerleading while doing what they love as a career as well. It was quite handy when she was there and I know a lot of people use her. She works just like any other therapist would work, but her office/work space is in the gym rather than in a different building.

I just looked her up and found the website for CheerMed, that is awesome!! I'm wondering/wishing there was something like that in the states because that is definitely something I would want to do and I would have no idea where to begin to start that myself. Thanks for the info!

I think maybe if gyms started to take notice, or athletes with medical field backgrounds started to take notice of it happening, it might happen more!

I have no idea how PT works (not literally, i know what you do:p) but with regards to like insurance, billing, licensing, etc. With chiropractic, the insurance to practice is astronomically cheaper than MD's and you can choose to have an all cash practice and never once have to deal with patients' insurance companies. so in theory, the gym could pay a lump sum to have you there and treating patients (cost factored into tuition or an optional extra - with parents present, waivers, etc. obviously) or the parents could pay cash to use you services on premises. or it could go opposite and i guess you could give the gym a percentage of profits to practice in their facility. i haven't really thought out the logistics of it, because it would certainly vary depending on the gym and what they wanted. my immediate goal after graduation would just be to form a relationship with any gym in the area i choose to set up practice and hope for referrals from the gym and maybe one day down the road get to be there once a week or something. a girl can dream lol

seriously, think of how many times here we say to injured kids to bring a video of what you do to the MD/PT/DC etc because they don't understand what you do? but we already understand, so it's a win-win for gyms, athletes, and (hopefully) us!
