I was on instagram and was stalking Nfinity and i saw a picture they posted of this device called "The Stunt Double"

mh3req.png

It really interested me, so i went and looked at their instagram (@stuntdoublecheer) , and it looks like a new device made for bases to practice stunts. Their instagram says they're so far not for sale, but in one of the comments i saw it said they will go for about $399... (yikes. its the stunt stand price issue all over again).

What do you guys think of this? As a base it looks really cool, but its probably not something most people could afford...

I could make something like that on my own... $399 is way too much.

Edit: if Tate is reading this, I apologize if it sounds harsh. It's just that I feel as though everything is costing too much nowadays.

By the way, when are they going to make something for backspots?

:D

I'd have to personally use it to know but if they did it right you are paying $400 for proper engineering. What looks simple... rarely is. I would love to review it.

I know the guys making it. The version they had at worlds was kind of pre-beta thing and now they're working on real production for it.

can someone who has seen it explain what it does?

it looks like a shoe with a helicopter attachment.

I have actually had this idea before (not claiming first or it is easy, but tried to figure out a device to help bases like we have stunt stands). Basically it is a balanced weight on a foot and you have to learn how to hold the weight correctly and balance while pushing.

There's equipment that lets flyers work on flying without the need for bases underneath them. This does the same but for bases. It lets them work on grips and techniques without a flyer.

There's a video here:

It looks like you might be able to add weight to either side, to simulate various conditions. Interesting concept. I hope that it comes with a helmet.

ETA - after watching the video, I see that resistance is provided by resistance bands, not weights. Much more intelligent than my idea, lol. That way the "foot" needn't be something heavy/dangerous - it could be padded/lightweight. Like this idea a lot.

Or you could just learn how we did, use your flyers shoe. ;)

Imagine that! And flyers used a can of corn to learn and/or practice. I'm not saying that these gadgets don't work, but I'm not sure the cost outweighs the benefit. If you want to spend money, $400 buys a lot of private lessons/clinics that can teach the proper technique with actual people.

We did that too! We added a resistance bands under the bases feet and held the other end in the hands with the shoe to make it more difficult.

My husband saw me share a post once helping @Mamarazzi raffle off tickets for a stunt stand. He went and bought me one. I was kinda mad about it bc I didn't mind buying a raffle ticket for it but I wasn't about to spend $400 for a stunt stand. It isn't even that great either. I keep it at the gym but we have homemade stunt stands that cost $45 to build and the kids use those more anyway. I don't recommend it so I'd probably feel the same way about this. I'm with @cheerKT , take off the flyers shoe and figure out the grip. Then do the stunt 3683947 times until you get it.

I wonder if this would help knock off about 29473 times of trying the stunt til it hit perfectly? Seems like it would be sort of like switching out to a new flyer...as soon as you got it going with the stunt double you'd have to refigure it all out with the different weight and balance of the actual flyer.

Now, this isn't to say this isn't a cool invention. I just don't see forking out $400 for this when the shoe is free. (or I guess, the cost of the shoe, haha)

I'd be afraid those handle bar thingies would get in the way, and whack both bases in the nose if doing any kind of twisting motion.
