The double rooms run out but are there any King rooms still available? I would think as long as there are rooms, an exemption wouldn't be granted because the doubles are gone.

Edited to say......this is an honest question. I'm not trying to be contrary. The hotel I booked, our only choice is a King room. There were no doubles. So, our whole gym could get exemptions??

Yes, there are still King rooms available. I know you aren't being contrary, it makes perfect sense that a hotel that caters to the business world vs. families would have very few double rooms. However, with that said, many of our families have two or more kids in the program so a King room is not a realistic option for them. We, also, have several single parents that have non-cp's that need to travel with them.

Stay To Play isn't the issue, as much as, it appears gyms are trying to keep their programs in one hotel. We have several families that would prefer to pay $400 a night for a king room next to the convention center and we have other families that need double rooms under a price point of $150. Open reservation for all hotels within the Stay To Play contract would alleviate that issue and still fill hotels to capacity.

Thanks for elaborating! No, I definitely get it. NCA and Cheerport (Back in the day when we stayed at the Omni) were the 2 places I am and was completely ok with sacrificing $$$ for convenience. But, I'm poor and I can't do that everywhere we travel. I was one of those families when I had all my kids doing this. There were 5 of us everywhere we went. I'm the master of traveling with 2 blow up mattresses (even if we fly). I would put the 3 kids in the bed and pray there was room for 2 blow up's.

To me stay to play is the issue.....Gyms wanting their teams to be mostly together under one roof isn't out of the ordinary nor too much to ask. Stay to play jacks up room prices so high, it's not affordable to the average family. That's not something the gym can control. (Well, unless they keep their teams at home but let's be real here.....LOL)

Since I know the power's that be read here, I will close with what I've been saying for years and years and years. If you want to grow the sport of allstar cheer, if that really is your main and primary goal (not just something you say but don't mean), you have to address the fact that you are pricing out the average families. It's an epidemic. I pray I can make it the last 3 years so my baby can age out of this sport like her 2 sister's did. The fear is real.

Usually, your gym will have a "gym hotel" with a "confirmation code". That is how our gym does it.

Our gym blocks hotels, of varying distance and price, and we can use that or choose our own as long as we go through Connections. I've done both. Two years ago at Cheersport we stayed in the gym block, and this year I am using a close hotel in our gyms block ONLY because I'm sharing with another mom (I could not afford it otherwise). Last year at Cheersport and NCA I used CH but stayed farther but more my price range.

I don't think our gym owner is the one who told us we don't HAVE to use the hotel they block as long as we use CH. I'm pretty sure I learned that here.

Our gym has a block for every stay to play comp including NCA but tells us to stay wherever we want. At NCA I have a double bed room through connections but not our gyms block

Amen, @mstealtoyou !!
I'm just rebellious enough, and have passed my thoughts about this forward, I don't particularly care what the team/program does, or how they figure it out, but I'm staying where I can get the cheapest room. Not sorry.
Once again, if the parents bow down this, it will continue. If we refuse, it will stop. I feel like @Just-a-Mom took over my brain for a sec...

Just putting it out there for SuperNationals: I can be your long lost cousin if you need an exemption.

Let me tell you how much the Homewood Suites is......$260.....TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY DOLLARS A NIGHT. :deathdrop:

And as a heads up... I know for a fact that at least one big hotel that is attached to the convention center has turned over a list of people who booked rooms through the hotel to NCA as a list of "cheer participants"

I have so many problems with this. 2 years ago we stayed there and CP wasn't cheering. How can they ... I just can't!

Tattled on them??

Tattled on them??

I guess that's what you could call it. I was contacted regarding this situation. Happens the room booked was for my father... But I booked it in my name for the points.
ET clarify

I'm still chuckling over the way they're trying to sell that CH helps negotiate the best rates...
As someone whose CP competed at NCA pre- Stay to Play under CH, the rate increases year to year since CH took over, have been astronomical!

Honestly, it has really turned me off to this competition (which used to be our hands down favorite!)

Well turns out we aren't going to NCA after all this year. I'm beside myself with the Stay to Play. My husband travels for a living. I use his points for cheer travel. I CANNOT AFFORD the OVER THE TOP stay to play prices. If I cannot use the points for our cheer travel my CP may have to give up this sport!! The Cheer Gods already get almost every penny that comes into my household. The added expense of having to pay for a hotel room that I could have gotten for no cost is going to price my family out. It sucks cause CP has worked so hard for so long to get to L5 and now we are running into this stay to play nonsense. It's so depressing.
