I've seen all of these (apologies for any duplicates that have already been discussed):

You were at a "loss for words," not a "loss of words."
You were "accepted" to college, not "excepted."
You were "disgusted," not "discussed." Also, "disgusted" does not have a C.
"Genius" does not have the letter O.
A "rite" is not the same thing as a "right."
"Fowl" refers to a bird. "Foul" is something disgusting. (For instance, the fowl could smell foul.)
"Hear" is something you do with your ears. "Here" refers to a place.
It's = It is. It is not the same word as "its."
"Matt" is a shorter form of Matthew. "Mat" is something you tumble on. They are not the same word, and if you have "ordered matts" I'm pretty sure that's called "human trafficking."

This is also random.. when I was in college my roommate asked me how to spell Whole Nother. After being confused she said something along the lines of:

That's a whole nother story.

Meanwhile, I thought to myself, gosh we do say that, but it's not a word! :) Needless to say, it's funny.

Confession time.

My senior year in high school, I lost 12 points on a science project that I did. One point off for each time I misspelled a word. When I saw the paper I became so self righteous, and stormed up to the teacher and told her that she must be incorrect and that I was right.

That is when I found out that "idea" was not spelled "idear". I was in complete shock!

That something that would happen to my boyfriend. He says ideal for idea, i correct him every time but it's useless.

My all time pet peeve: sense/since. I can't (btw: can't=cannot. one word) stand when these two are used incorrectly.

I haven't thrown my back handspring sense last summer.
Top Gun lost? That doesn't make any since.

AHHHHHH

Board and bored. You will never be "board" unless you somehow turn into a piece of wood.

ETA: I also saw a friend post used dresses for sale on Facebook and she said "they were only warn once" Nope, sorry girl, I think you mean worn...

This reminds me of a story a former co-worker told about his son. They were not from 'round here and when the son started school he really struggled with the spelling words. Being a concerned parent, dad went to meet with the teacher to discuss the son's grade...and when the teacher spoke, dad immediately knew what the issue was. Poor kid was trying to spell the words just like his Southern teacher said them:D

"Can I have that?" well I don't know, can you?

You should say "May I have that?"

Also- not quite grammar, but I was getting ready this morning when I overheard my roommate say, "Matte is definitely pronounced 'mat-tay'. You have to pronounce the E, it's in the word." ...we're in college.
