You guys have been a great source of information...can I pick your brains for a bit more??? LOL
For those who have driven to the Convention Center....
1. How early do I need to be there to get parking in Convention Center lot??
2. If I arrive a bit later how easy is it to find and park in surrounding lots?
3. Will streets around Convention Center be so congested that I will not be able to drop off passengers by the entrance?
4. What is going on with Horseshoe Construction Project near the Convention Center? Will it have an impact on the streets surrounding the Center?
I am really pushing for the train but have friends that really insist upon driving (we are staying outside of city)
Thanks so much again!!!!!
I don't know anything about the construction project so I can't answer that. We rented a car last year. DH drove though, so he would drop us off (there were lines but we never had to wait more than 5 minutes and we got there mid morning). He has always been able to find parking either in the convention center lot or close by. The traffic going from the hotel to the convention center was never bad - busy but always moved steadily.

Thanks for the info, where were you staying? if you don't mind me asking..

Also there is a website called parkingpanda where you can prepay, print a ticket and drive right in. Haven't used it though. It Sounds great in theory.

The Magnolia. They have a shuttle so we likely won't need the car to get to the convention center. We stayed at Springhill Suites last year which I loved but there was no shuttle and the car came in handy with the bad weather.

I was going to leave the car at SHS but with the early call time I think I might just drive to convention center. I hate to pay at the hotel and cc to park my car though!

There is a lot right across from the hotel that is MUCH cheaper than the hotel parking! Park there instead!

I definitely will but I'll still have to pay twice each day to park my car. :(

We stayed at Magnolia last year. Loved it. Walked to the convention center every time - took about 10 minutes. It was a nice walk even Sunday night when it was icy.

Whether you can use the train depends primarily on where you are staying. The trains are really only good for a limited area.

I have looked into Uber, and am not comfortable with it. My DH actually feels very strongly and is against me and CP using them at all. A coworker of mine requested a female driver in December and was sent a male driver (she refused the ride and was left stranded for an hour).

Their "background" checks for their drivers are not thorough and do not include finger printing etc, which are required by the big taxi companies. They rely on "personal identifiers such as license numbers and SSN". According to one article I read, there is no way to ensure that these applicants are truly who they claim to be. They were sued in California last year for claiming to have "best available" background checks. Uber is working on improving this but I do not know if they have yet. There have been a handful of assaults by Uber drivers as well.

Just something to keep in mind. I haven't looked into Lyft.

Nothing is perfectly safe, I suppose, but my experiences with Uber have been fantastic. They seem much safer than the typical taxi to me.

We are outside of Dallas in Irving...it is the Orange line and then either walk or transfer to red or blue

I love Uber!!! Huge fan!! . Downtown Dallas is a great place to use it. Download on your phone, you tell them where you are, they pick you up.. Boom! Easy breezy!! Taxis take too long sometimes unless. Parking around conv isn't too bad... Parking garage in back is the best if you come early! Hope to see you moms Friday night at Cheer Mom Palooza!! It's kind of the place to be! ;)

How much advance notice do you think one would need for an uber ride?
