When my daughter tried on the sizing skirt the Varsity rep asked her if she was an all star cheerleader. She of course said yes. The rep said she knew because my daughter was wearing the skirt around her hips/the top of her hips where all star skirts are worn versus her waist where HS skirts are supposed to be worn. Is she wearing it too low? I can't totally tell from the picture. Chances are it just fits wrong, but it was just a thought...her face makes me so sad, as a mom, but also sort of cracks me up because she looks ticked!
In scholastic cheer, skirts are supposed to be worn at the natural waist.

I wear my skirt so the band hits my belly button or right below it. From the picture she might be able to raise it a little bit but not sure how it will flare out in the back or if it will at all.

@amy1k - It almost looks like she got someone else's skirt possibly?

ETA - is this a Varsity uniform? Our varsity rep fitted every single girl so it would be surprising if a skirt for this poorly.
Our varsity rep fit every girl and everyone's uniforms fit terribly. Our tiniest girls were wearing size medium skirts which were of course falling off their body. My entire uniform was HUGE. like, I'm quite "gifted" up top and there was a significant gap between my bra and the uniform. There were inches of material between where my body ended width wise and where the top ended. My skirt didn't stay on my body and I am not small. I had to add an extra button to keep it up which then looked ridiculous.
The reason I got a new uniform ordered was because my top from the year prior was too tight, so I couldn't switch with anyone and was stuck in the terribly fitting uniform that I couldn't get altered all year. Luckily a bunch of people didn't return their uniforms that year so the next year we couldn't wear them!

Since middle school ive always had issues with any uniform. Some I've just gotten used to. They always have issues with fitting skirts and where the waist should be. Since i am pretty tall, long torso, high belly button lol, and a little lanky i tend to always get fitted for too short of a shell. But honestly i'd rather have the short shell versus what they fitted me for a few years ago when my mom complained, and the next back length size on the shell made too baggy. With my skirts I ALWAYS ask the rep to fit me a little lower on the waist, because anything above the belly button makes it flare out at my hips and the waistband is way to tight. So for my HS uniforms i wear the skirt about 1/2 inch below the belly button. and the shells usually are long enough to "meet up" with the waist of the skirt while standing still. I do get some midriff/hips showing during cheers and it shows in theback while sitting/bending but sure beats wearing a top that fits like a loose long shirt. So you have to play with the way it fits and if re-using uniforms sometimes you have to sacrifice the "proper" Varsity uniform protocol that they go by during the fitting.

My daughter got her high school uniform yesterday. I've been working super late, so I've not seen her, but she sent me some (awful) pictures. I'm really frustrated about the fit of the skirt. I have no idea how something so poor fitting was ordered. There's something really off about the shape of the skirt. The waist is far too small for the rest of it. I hope there's something that can be done.

(Her face looks stressed over the fit)

You can't really tell how bad the fit is until the last picture. It looks quite uncomfortable! I would first ask the coach if she maybe got someone else's skirt. It looks to be a size to small in the waist. I've coached and cheered my whole life. I've only ever had or used varsity uniforms. In my experience the skirts don't/won't stretch out if they're polyester (this skirt looks to be.)

It could be possible that she grew that much since she was fitted (not too uncommon for girls her age) or that the numbers written down on the order were wrong. I find it hard to believe any rep or coach would look at that and say it fits, then purposefully order that size! If you are in fact stuck with that size, I would take it to get altered. A seamstress can let the skirt out enough to fit. Varsity uniforms are good about leaving enough fabric to get let out if needed. The band can be extended or the button moved depending on how let out it needs to be. Sucks that you have to alter a new uniform, but it's better then not being able to breathe!

I have NEVER had a varsity rep fit my child correctly, ever. I had to alter her school uniform myself because I wasn't present for that fitting. With Allstar fittings I can insist she try on the correct sizes, length gets added ect. Every rep that has ever fit her for Allstar fit her too small. If I had gone with their recommendations she would not have been able to get the uniforms on. Fortunately her school uniform was too big and could be taken in.

I see people having issues with reps/coaches insisting on a small size. In my experience, it's usually the other way around!

The rep/myself/someone else is insisting on something bigger when the KID is barely getting into a skirt and insisting that it "like totally fits."

Yes. This! In high school, we picked from the sizes laid out and tried on what we thought would fit. Once we liked the fit we came and told the rep the size we wanted. Why anyone would let us choose our sizes is beyond me, but that's the way we did it. No wonder things didn't fit back then!

I personally sit with the rep and approve the size of each girl. We have never had an issue with fit. At this point in life my rep knows me and what I like very well. For years though, she would discuss how I like uniforms to fit before we started and she would size girls to that standard. If the coach tells the rep she wants it a certain way the rep does that. I'm not sure how it works every where else. My rep has told me that at other schools her coaches have no part in the process and the kids get their own size sheets to write down their size for everything. I imagine this is the issue most schools have.

If a uniform rep hadn't told me that there were schools/gyms that allowed kids to choose their own sizes, I wouldn't have believed you! I have final approval on sizes, but girls will come in, see a certain size (like the size they wore last season) and try to tell me it fits fine when they just needed someone to hold it together so it would zip/button. No.

Don't get me wrong, I remember being 16 and not always liking my body (I am short so my skirt always looked long-ish.) I know it's not fun to get fitted and see that your skirt size is now 2 sizes bigger than it was last year. But if I let you just order what you want (the size you wore last year that barely zips now) you won't be happy and you will practically need a new skirt by December because it will be so uncomfortable that you can't cheer in it.

Here's a better picture of her new uniform. There's definitely something up with the skirt...like it was put together awkwardly. The waist is small and the bottom of the skirt seems too wide. The shell is long enough that it will work out, I think, if it can't be replaced and needs to be altered. It's disappointing, but not the end of the world.

Is that navy or royal blue?

Royal blue and orange. *sigh* haha! They have another mock that is white. I like them both well enough. Last year they wore blue mocks that had stripes on the arms that matched up with the shell. I hated those.

Varsity school uniforms are A-line skirts, which is what you're describing with the smaller wast and flare out of the bottom. Typically flattering on people with hips. If a kid has no hips or but then it just looks awkward and flabby unless you get them altered. Their non-polyester and allstar skirts don't fit like this.
