I just watched Brandon Black's performance and I'm not quite understanding people's criticism of them?

To say that they, or any team for that matter, has lost the hunger to win gold is a very unfair statement towards the athletes and coaches. If they've lost the "hunger", they would have just dropped their stunts and execute with poor technique. How can you say a team that placed first isn't hungry for gold?

Their routine is difficult and execution is probably among the best in the industry, I'm not sure what more of a super human feat people expect them to achieve? Brandon's coaches are just as aware as SMOED's coaches that the competition in their division is tough. Heck, all the coaches with teams in the small coed division are aware of this.

And as a reminder, at the end of the day, the coaches and athletes don't have to please us, they just have to please the judges.

@DancerDude0118 Just looking at difficulty, I am genuinely curious, did you think BSB had more difficulty than Midnight? Do you agree they should have had the higher raw score? You are great at breaking down routines. I am not. Maybe you are catching things I am missing.

small coed scoring seems WAY OFF me to.
1. BSB seems super low. they also didn't have 20 people they had 19. so that might explain their low score
2. Odyssey had 0 deductions?? they had a stunt fall???

@Cheeranswers I am always curious if judges take into account a team that maxes out stunts v. a team that goes 1 less athlete to make their stunts stronger (easier to put up 4 v. 5). Then if you have great tumblers that are weak at basing, they can stay on as an extra without worries. Which small coed teams have 20 athletes this season? Smoed and ?????

I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you whose routine is more "difficult" because all the top teams in the division are so close in terms of skills. However, as a reminder, the base/raw score you see on the final ranking sheet isn't purely a "difficulty" score.

A team's base/raw score is based on both difficulty and execution. Execution matters a lot, and it's not about whether you hit or not, it's whether you hit with good technique. Just look at tumbling technique alone, are their doubles:
Set properly (amplitude)?
Laid out and not a ball of death?
Crossed legs (most cheerleaders, even gymnast, have difficulty reducing this form break)?
Landed with chest as upright as possible?
Landed with a stick or multiple steps back?

Every tenth counts, these are questions you can answer on your own as you watch their performances.

I was wondering the same thing about odyssey... except I've yet to see a video. I'm going off of cheerupdates post.

For me, before their upgrades at Majors, the routine just felt a bit underwhelming and maybe that made it look like they didn't have the spark they had last season? I feel bad for implying they aren't hungry, I'm sure they are, every team is, it just wasn't showing through as much in their performance.

Just want it to be known that I LOVE BSB, they are, and always will be, my favourite team out of all of the divisions, not just small coed. I always want them to do well and win so maybe I'm just looking to much into things. Of course, like you say, they only need to please the judges (which they did yesterday) so as long as they keep doing that, I will be pleased too :)

brandon reminds me of orange especially these past 2 or 3 seasons, they are going for the execution factor cause its worth more. I think Brandon's routine is just as entertaining to watch as it was last year. The only thing i wish they would change is the pyramid, its good but not a good as last years pyramid.

correct me if im wrong though, didnt brandon have a much higher raw score last season compared to this season.

ill be curious to see how NCA goes with brandon, prodigy and smoed all attending, i think that will give people a better perspective on how they stack up heading into worlds.

The hardest criticism I have of Brandon at the moment is performance and that's where I feel no "hunger" from them. Of course they want to win gold, everyone does. A team placing first doesn't mean they have the same hunger they used to. A team placing first means they showed up on that day and hit a routine that was worthy of first place according to the judges. The last few years, that team has come out swinging every single time they stepped on the mat and they put their entire selves into those routines. I don't see that anymore, at least from a performance aspect.

It's not as though the other teams don't have high to highs and double ups. No shade. I really am wondering. The routines seem much more evenly matched this year (except panthers when they hit), especially SE & F5's routine. except scoring. Tumbling is similar, stunts, pyramid...anyway, I'm not a judge, so maybe one will comment.

I heard a cheer rumor that SE is going to Dallas. (pure gossip).

Clearly you're reading to respond. I said high-high AND 1.5 FULL AROUNDS. It's different from double ups and tick tocks which seem to be everyone's bread and butter in stunts nowadays. Also, SE is going for quantity in tumbling because there's only a few people that can do specialty passes through to doubles...
