I really hope they make it a rule reguarding flyers size and age.
It's completely ridiculous that all these very talented girls are being passed over for tiny young girls just because it's easier to base a 4ft 50lb flyer. How bout put a flyer who is height weight proportioned with her base? I feel this is setting them up for failure when it comes to high school and college cheer.
Also being 12 on a level 5 team just because your tiny is ridiculous. Teach your bases how to base normal size flyers. Your teams look ridiculous when all the girls look the same height and weight but then they have a 5 year old looking flyer. Just saying what everyone else is thinking. Start speaking up and asking for changes

If the itty-bitty 12 year old is flexible and tight in the air....why on earth wouldn't a smart gym use them? The score sheet doesn't give bonus points for using 16 yo, 105 lb flyers. Especially on all girl teams, I am becoming a fan, simply bc my 14 year old will be senior age next year. She is a former flyer who is 5'3", 98 lbs. She loves basing, and has been a base the past few years. She is a level 5 tumbler, and has aspirations for ultimately being on a worlds team. Fortunately, our gym uses teeny-tiny flyers and has an a abundance of them. It increases my cp's chance of being an effective member of a senior team. She would most likely struggle to base a girl bigger than her.

I do agree it stinks for athletes who adore flying and just happened to hit puberty and grow. I suppose the best thing they can do is continue to work on coed stunting and flexibility to prepare for college?

Not to mention that many gyms can't field a level 5 junior and a level 5 senior. Last year, the gym CP cheers at only had two junior teams-a half year prep and a J1. So yeah, there were 12 yr olds on S3 and S5-because a J1 simply wouldn't be a good fit.

She wouldn't struggle if they taught her how to base or let her be an elite tumbler on on team. There is s place for everyone. But seriously it ok with the fetus flyers being in level 5. The gym should know it makes the team
Look weak. These girls and boys are strong and dedicated they can lift bigger flyers

So @Cheer2009 - my now 20 year old cheerleader is 4'6" and about 85 pounds. Who should she base? Or backspot? Or is she just not be allowed to cheer because of your proposed rule where you deem her to small and too easy to base?
Clearly she is limited on what team
She would be in by age. My post was about 10 year old tiny girls on level 5 without all the other skills. Judy because you are small and of course anyone of that size can fly when you have adults basing you

My point is that it's easier for them to put a tiny young flyer in the air and have adult size base. This is not ok. Anyone can hold up a flyer that is half their size. While all these age appropriate flyers are looked over simply because of size. So they end up basing and having resentment towards their younger team mates .

I guess our gym is fortunate....our 10-12 year old flyers on senior and worlds team CAN tumble and are amazing little flyers. We also have some older flyers who LOOK 10-12 and are equally amazing. Our gym puts together stunt groups to set them up to win. Period.

The best athlete for the job should get it, period regardless of size. Physics says, all things being equal, the smaller flyer has an easier time staying up. Life isn't always fair, but it's the reality of the situation, you need to be small to fly.

Someone is bitter their cp got bumped out the air by someone younger and smaller ;)
All jokes aside, if a young flyer is flexible, mature, and tight they deserve every right to be up in the air over someone who is bigger. It is practiced in nearly every other sport. Two basketball players wih equal ability, you choose the tallest to start. Also many gyms don't have enough level 5 athletes so pulling younger kids is kind of a need to field a level 5.

My cp is a back spot and always has been. She is not on a level 5 she is on a Jr 3. So please refrain from speaking about my cp.
Again this doesn't go on at every gym. I have read post on here about having same size flyers and they agree it looks better.
