After moving in to a new location - one tumble practice was held on Saturday, team practice on Monday, Tuesday afternoon an e-mail was sent out that doors were closing. Families left out in the cold trying to figure out what to do next.

Did a rockstar gym or someone recently open in that area? If so did they maybe play apart in he closing? That sucks for the kids and the parents who have already invested money into the program.

do you have any more information? was there any indications of financial trouble or any other issues within the gym? It seems that there are a few gyms that have closed with no indication this year.

Not CEA related but yes, I'm hearing rumors that the closest Worlds gym to us may be closing. Closing within 2 months of competing at Worlds seems unusual to me. But when I checked them out on social media, their website is down and they haven't posted on IG since early June. There have been some FB posts, but they are about small kids classes, parties, not team or try-out related. I guess time will tell.

It could happen. Many years ago there was a gym near us in NC that closed the next day after returning from Worlds. What many fail to see that is just because a team goes to Worlds or even does well, is NOT an indicator of how well the business is being run. Very rarely if at all do Worlds team make a gym any money.

From what I've read, classes and lower level teams are where the money is. It can be weird to wrap one's head around the fact that a program you will never see at Worlds can be bringing in healthy profits every month.

Ours does. While we have no problem going to Worlds, we want to be ready to make it past a one and done performance. Why go to Worlds and compete once, when you can go to Summit and make top 10 or at least have a better chance? This is what many in the industry still can't wrap their heads around. They think you are losers if you don't try to go to Worlds.

They also can't wrap their heads around the fact that you can be considered just as great a coach working with classes as being up front and center on competition day. They leave the newbie coaches or coaches with no interest in classes but want the money on classes and suffer in retention and progressions.

I noticed this in dance years ago. The elite kids are fewer in numbers so overall what they pay in tuition is far less than the many many tiny ballerina's (or lower level cheerleaders) that any given program has.

I also noticed that costume fees for the little girls subsidized the more elaborate and costly costumes for the older girls. I'm not sure if there is a correlation to this in cheer. I know that most of us buy our uniforms. But when World's teams get a 2nd day uniform, do they pay for that as well? Or is that a gift from the program? Do the lower level teams get a little less bling but pay the same as a worlds team for uniform?

This is exactly how I feel! I've been disappointed with tumbling classes at our cheer gym, I feel like the coaches don't care, they mostly stand around and can't wait for the class to be over and my kids don't progress. They now tumble at a gymnastics gym instead as of this week, so the cheer gym lost $100+/month from us. We probably will be back for half year teams but I don't feel super loyal at the moment, we'll see.

Most programs require kids to purchase both uniforms, some it's set in the tuition price. I've seen a few teams get surprise uniforms for worlds and TGLC won their 2nd uniforms from varsity.

Yes my niece was in 005 3 years and actually had three uniforms all three years. . She paid for one maybe and the otheres were made by the uniform company as a form of advertisement since they are photographed so often etc.

Yes, the worlds team CP was on had day two uniforms every year and we had to buy both uniforms. One of the uniforms they only wore 2-3 times. Never got a free uniform and never got to buy used because they were new every year.

Kicking the soil aside but impatiently asking where the harvest is.

CEA Hampton Roads (Chesapeake, VA) had closed but another Hampton Roads Gym in Virginia Beach, VA - Epic Cheer and Dance is now under the Cheer Extreme Umbrella as CEA Epic Sharks
