Things changing at the drop of hat was a huge change a step an athlete as well. My coach always started the year by telling us to tell our parents not to contact him, because "you're an adult now and need to take care of your own problems." He honestly made us all have to step up a lot.

Mat list is one of the craziest things to get used to. We had a mat list posted on our team groupme after each workweek, camp, and about once a month until choreography on the first weekend in January. He always said that he posted it and it's who would be competing in mat if they left tomorrow. The anxiety of the last one before choreo was crazy. Of course the occasional person may get switched out second semester but that one that was posted 2-3 days before choreo was the most terrifying.

Soooo much respect for you and everyone who cheers for the college programs! That sounds like torture. Being on a level 6 team last year got my CP & myself a little taste of the "coach refuses to deal with Parents" thing. However 50% of their stuff was the same as every other team she crossed on so it wasn't THIS bad. An athlete better REALLY want it bad in order to accept, deal with and thrive under these conditions! You're a special kind of WOW!

Thanks, but I definitely know that there are some seriously hardcore programs out there. I have a lot of respect to anyone in the OSU or Louisville/Gymtyme program. Or anyone who cheered for a UCA nationally competitive school. I could NEVER take known nationals that early.
