How many Y5's are there at this point? Two? Three? I know CEA has YE and WC has Twinkles, but the other gyms who historically had Y5's have left the division (MDT, ECE, Cheer Tyme, Cheer Athletics). I think CEA and WC will be able to continue in the YE division, but I don't know if they'll want to or not.

I just asked this question in the NCA thread. There are now just those two. Most of the kids on the Twisters, ECE, etc. teams went to J5 or Jr5R per @luv2cheer92 .

I am not saying one way or the other is the best... just thinking out loud. Also thinking those that get the $ are going to do their best to ensure the most people remain in the "sport" paying the $ whether it is logical or not.
I was just thinking the same when reading above about Y5...Is it logical to spend that much money, time, etc when the division consists of 2, 3 teams?

sorry but WOW!!!! ......we actually usually do well, FP twice, and best was 7th/8th in the US and 13th in the country one year.
We fundraise and work hard! We dont go to move to finals but we r proud of what we have accomplished as a small gym!
That is awesome! I am not discounting your team/program. And I love that there are now FPs for IO teams (they used to be few and far between and with all the starving college kids often on these teams the bids are really more needed) What I am saying is that we have seen a changing face in the IO categories in recent years - and Worlds (even with FPs) is crazy expensive. I think too often we (as cheer peeps) get caught up in the excitement and lose logic. If you can fundraise and cover your costs--- that is awesome --- I know I paid far too much over the years and wish I had managed things differently.

yeah kind of wish that is one rule that is changed..........no more bid declarations!!!!

I would totally be okay with them raising the age of all open teams to 17. Probably won’t happen since all the SM that have kids under 17 would freak out. Where would their precious child fly now? Since they already left multiple gyms because Susie couldn’t compete with the 12 year olds. Here is a thought, why not be a team player and learn how to base?

My CP is 15. She flys on an IOC5. It saves us money, travel, time off school, etc. If the age was moved to 17 it would affect us negatively, but I would understand. I do see the big picture. Adding, the majority of her team, including bases are also high school students.

This got me thinking, do you have to have someone over the age of 18 to make it an open team

the age of 17 would also affect the small gyms from making an IOC5 who dont have enough under 19 to make a worlds team.

Well the US now has "Open 5" and "International Open 5" - you could keep International Open 5 14+, but make Open 5 17+ if it's mean to be a club, AKA US-only, division.

I agree that I5 is a good opportunity for smaller gyms to make a worlds team. It looks like thy're going to keep XS now though, so that's always an option.

No, you don't. But I don't know why anyone would take a team of 14-18 year olds and go International instead of Senior. There's less competition locally (especially IO5), only top 10 move out of US Trials to Semi-Finals and only top 3 US teams make finals. And if you're coed, good luck competing with your teenage boys against the strength of grown men.

If your gym already has a small coed 5 and has a group left over that fits the small ioc5 guidelines then there is motivation to make it happen. The two teams won't have to compete against each other.

Sorry this is not Worlds related, but since there were comments about lower levels too, I thought I'd ask here. New rules still show as "coming soon" on our usasf member page. Hopefully the link will be up soon, however, CP is currently on Level 3 and has been working Level 4 skills which now might be obsolete for next season if I've read some comments correctly (and it's possible I didn't). :/ I apologize if I've missed it somewhere in the couple of threads I was reading through, but if someone has the new 2018-2019 rules for Level 3 and 4 skill changes, would you mind sending them to me please? Thanks very much.

Go look at cheermad on facebook. They shared the changes.

EDIT (Ashley): I removed your link, we can't share copyright material on here.

Thank you. I see the age grid changes on there, but it seemed from some of the comments that there were changes to the types of skills that would be permitted (or not) at Level 4 for next year and that is what I am looking for. Specifically for what skills would be permitted/prohibited at Levels 3 and 4 Elite with whatever changes have been made. I might have to wait for the usasf rule link to activate, which I hope will be soon. Thanks for your help, though!
