I just wish they would bring back Bid announcements to the actual competitions. It’s so much more exciting for the athletes, parents and coaches who are all in the moment of surprise. Now, it’s almost known who will be receiving bids after scores are released, hunted down, etc. We received our Worlds bid via a webcast this year and I was so deflated when I found out they were not going to be announced at the comp. It is what it is, but it’s not the same. No banner, trophy, etc.

I’ve been out of cheer for about two seasons now so I aged it as they changed the summit bid announcements from at the event to video on Monday. I know one of the reasons mentioned when they changed it was that extra day to ensure the correct teams received bids has anyone seen an increase in that compared to the old way. Does it all seem to be more consistent? Do competitions seems to be sticking more with the announced bid declaration? Geunially just curious

It is now based solely on score whereas before it had a component of EP discretion at some comps. That said, errors are still being made.

After getting caught up on with this discussion here I must say that I could get with 5 WC teams going straight to finals. Maybe this will get more gyms to stay local or maybe say a 2 hour driving radius max to local comps for WC bids and limit the amount of 2 day competitions that require extra money and more school days being missed when you could just due more one day competitions grab a WC and save those funds and days off for Summit and try to make top 5. I mean we read rants about how expensive this sport is on here all of the time so maybe this will be able to cut costs some. IDK just my 2 cents. But yay for adding Open Level 4 to the Summit! I love that idea and it is perfect for those older athletes approaching their senior or super senior days who have yet to get those Level 5 skills. Worlds bumping to Level 6 may be on it's way to happening after all. I mean think about it with the Open Level 4 division about to boom and grow bigger each year, this will encourage more athletes to continue in cheer beyond Super Senior which naturally produce more progression to Level 5 and our current Level 5 athletes will have no choice but to keep pushing that envelope to Level 6, and there are more Level 6 teams competing each year. JS

Might be reading it wrong, but level 6 is already at Worlds. If that's not what you were saying ignore me haha

My oldest CP is starting to miss Cheer. She would love to be part of an Open 4 and compete in the Arena at NCA, but has no desire to go back to Summit. Going to Summit 4 times was enough for her.

I can definitely see that. For me (and many of my teammates last year), Summit wasn't a thing when we were Senior age so we never had that opportunity. So having that as an option is appealing. Our group chat blew up the last couple days with people wanting to come back because of it. Also, Open 4 was the only division other than tiny and mini that didn't have a big end of season comp at all, so I'm very happy to see that something was added.

And this was the first year Open 4 was in the arena, so I wouldn't use that as motivation as it may or may not happen again in the future haha.

While I've come to terms that I'm way too old to cheer now lol, I'm happy for the division to continue to grow. It's come a long way since my first year on one in 2012 for sure!

THIS is my biggest complaint! They give worlds bids out at comps still (at 99% of them) so Summit bids should still be given out. They know how they are given out, based on percentage score so just give them out at the event where the athletes can celebrate together. Monday evenings are hard to get the team back together (when they already know they are going to get the bid, because of scores) to celebrate together. Not fair to the athletes! Go back to giving the bids out at the events. All you have to do is go back at a later ceremony for your level or age group.

I see why Varsity made this WC change. Some of those divisions are massive. BUT I think 5 straight to finals is a lot. I would rather see something like top 5 continue on, top 3 continue straight to finals with the 4th and 5th place team having to compete in Saturday prelims.

Agreed. That's kinda what they're doing this year, but it's based on division size. So larger divisions have more move on. I don't see why they would change that, I think that's the best way to do it.

With the announcement of the recent changes regarding the WC round does that mean there will be fewer AL and Paid bids for the upcoming season?

If WC bids become more attractive will that mean more teams go to one day comps instead of two days and less profit for Varsity from comp fees and entrance fees? Did they think this through...? :D
